No feedback after reporting content/user

Hello all,

On daily base I am reporting spam content and so on. In the past, I was receiving a notification whenever a report was closed and what action was taken. At this point, I am not receiving any reports any more. How come?

Sometimes I receive reports and other times I don't. I guess the mods can choose whether or not to send a report or maybe the report only goes to the first person to report a violation and it may have been reported several times.

IDK, just guessing here
 
It may be the fact that some of us are being trained - I have not been sending report notifications, but I will start doing so from now.

I agree that when I was reporting threads it is nice to get a notification about the report.

I will also say this, though; the mods are very busy and like @MisterF said it’s not always possible to provide feedback on all reports.
 
The notice sent to a reporter after a report has been rejected/resolved is optional. Mods will generally send a notification when they can, but sometimes a report is fairly straightforward and just doesn't really necessitate a notice.

Reports about spam bots tend to receive notices less because it's usually pretty obvious when they've been resolved, as they'll disappear from the homepage a minute afterwards max.

ive reported thousands of spammers over the years, sometimes you get an alert sometimes you
dont , but if this helps - here you go.

I realise this is an old thread now, but I'd like to throw in my 2 cents.

I understand that the mods are busy and while being acknowledged for a job well done does wonders to my already over inflated ego, I would prefer it if I was told why a report was a shit one.

Not that I'm trying to add to your workload mods, honest.

EDIT: For example. I have recently reported a thread for what I thought was a valid reason, but nothing has happened to it - this probably means my valid reason wasn't valid, which is fine - but if I knew why it wasn't valid I wouldn't fill up the Mods log with that kind of report again - making their job easier in the long run.

It is double work to send a report to the one that reports the thread. Often times our response to the offence would be a different kind of response to the one that helped the forum by reporting.

The staff absolutely appreciates those that report to keep things clean but time and energy do not always give us the opportunity to be able to send a response.

As an example I've logged on and have seen as many as 85 reports waiting to be handled. Had I handled each of those and explained my response to each person who was kind enough to report I'd be much older than I am and nobody wants that.

Firstly, I do not claim to understand the stresses and strains that go with being a Mod. For me, this forum is a hobby and while I take my hobbies seriously I do not have the same responsibilities hanging over my heads as the Mods. I reply to what I like and report what I want, whereas for the Mods, this place presents an added responsibility and/or stress to their lives. I would not wish to make their lives more difficult.

I tend to make two types of reports.

Type 1

A clear rule has been broken and I will quote that rule in the "Reason for report" box.

I would happily make a thousand of those reports and would not expect to receive any response from a Mod. I do not report things for a pat on the back. I do it to help out the forum and possibly one day help in my efforts to become a Mod.

I don't need to hear from a Mod as I know a rule has been broken and Mod will get to it when they have time.

Type 2

Sometimes, I won't know if a post breaks a specific rule - but I think it probably does. For example, a "spam like" post rather than a full on spam post. Or I might see a user do some odd things, it may even be as vague as I think that something is not in the spirit of the forum. A good example of the latter is a post that you recently locked, the member was being silly and had a poor attitude for a business forum.

This was something that you reflected when locking the post. The post was one that I reported - not knowing if it really broke any rules, but knowing that I wanted a Mod to take a look.

These types of report are where I would appreciate some occasional guidance, just to make sure I'm not barking up the wrong tree.

Your reports are spot on and appreciated by the Staff... we don't see all the non-acceptable activity on the forum that goes on and there is no way we could and thus rely on honorable people like yourself to help out.

For those of us that are volunteer Mods the stress level is actually pretty low.

We see something that does not fly we take action.
We see a thread in one of the sections that require moderation before it goes live we follow protocol.
We get a report from a member that is telling us that something is amiss we look and see and if so we take action.

There are legitimately times where we, or maybe I, have some stressful situations to deal with but those are few and last a solid 33 seconds.

I'm pretty sure I know the thread you are talking about and had my eye on it for some time but the vision is to let the members interact as much as possible until the line is crossed too many times or too far.

I'll try and do a better job by explaining myself in terms of a response when people report a post/thread as that is a responsibility I should take on as a Mod if possible.

Also, feel free to PM any of the staff if you have a question or are unsure as to what is happening in a particular area. We may not be able to be 100% open based on what we are instructed but there we should be able to at least give you an idea of why and what.

Again, your reports, as well as the reports of the others here, are important to keep the site clean and are more then welcomed and appreciated by every staff member.
