Nine Grand for a Bicycle?

The world has gone completely mad! I was looking at bicycles the other day with my wife as she is looking to upgrade and in this store there was a bike for 9K.

That is right $9,000.00 USD!

My own bicycle was about 600.00 new and I thought that I was over spending at the time so maybe I have a view that is colored by a level of parsimony that is past average/normal but 9 Grand is certainly over the top. The bike weighs less than a daily newspaper as I did pick it up and is so thin you could probably shave with it.

I know it has a place in some microcosm of society but I'll never visit that neighborhood.

$9000 is nothing for a bike and it really depends on what you will be doing with it. I do trails and downhill riding, gets expensive fast but well worth it.

That seat needs lowering ASAP. You will have back problems within a day :)
 
Wow. I agree, that's way too expensive. I'd rather get a good secondhand car for that price.
 
specialized s-works awesome bike. is your wife going to race? if yes its worth every cent lol. but if only for daily use get like a giant avail composite or something similar.
 
My neighbor spends thousands on bikes. He used to be a biker (motorcycles), then was overweight so started pedal biking.
He's about 60 now, probably lost like 40lbs. But that's all he does now. Bikes for hours every day. Does'nt actually race but spends thousands on bikes. Got one imported from Italy for like $8,000. Unbelievable. He has a mountain bike he bought for like $5,000, and uses it like once or twice a month.
 
You pay for quality I guess haha!

You could probably pick that up with your little finger BTB :)
 
If I pay that kinda money for a bicycle it better pedal it self sheesh

This shop actually caters to a high end rider that puts some miles on their rides. I ride between 60 and 70 miles a week or so I guess, my wife rides over a hundred.

The crowd that hangs around this shop thinks nothing of going out and riding 50 - 60 miles in a day. She is looking to start doing some of that kind of riding and is looking at something in the 1500.00 range.

You won't see any fat guys in this shop unless they are looking to buy a pricey gift.

The fat guys are usually dressed head to toe in branded latex like they are riding the tour de france. I come across them on the odd training run.(I wear good scott shoes but otherwise try to avoid the luminous pink gear)

My advise to anyone starting off is to buy a used bike. Those fat guys with big plans go out and spend 2-3 on an exotic bike then use it five or six times. eBay is full of practically unused bikes for one third of the shop price.

Glad to hear that. Many shops in my neck of the woods are filled with yuppie weekend riders with 5K+ bikes. I used to flip bikes as a hobby, feel free to send me her height/inseam measurements and I'll see if I can find some deals in your price range.

for $9000 I can buy vintage British Iron and not have to pedal.
