niche -- when to go micro or authority?

Hi,

well now that i mastered the "art of keyword research" there's the question in my when it is better to stay at a micro niche or go the authority way. Recently I found a nice niche in the travel area with 10+ keywords that I can (according to MNF) easily dominate. So in this case I better go the authority way, don't I?

Sure, if there are lots of keywords, go authority. I use mirco sites for smaller niches.

You might as well dominate all of those 10+ keywords and go authority. I don't see why not. Unless of course you don't want to put in all of the work to dominate all of these 10+ keywords.

Micro niche sites work good for short term, get-in-get-out types of campaigns, like product launches and such. If you have lots of keywords, I would go the authority route.. longer staying/growing power!

micro niche is more and more becoming a recipe for failure! add up all the negatives and you will realize that authority is the only way to go. I still got a few micro niche sites out there and they make a few dollars here and there but if you are going to register a new domain every time you want to make a few dollars, you really are going to go no where. My authoritative sites take a little more time but make WAY WAY more money.

It depends on the niche. I have been sticking with micro sites but I realized going the authority way is a better way to "survive" long-term.

I am in to Micro. Scaled it up. Now need to expand it with relative KWs to make an authority one.

Start with micro niche, check it is converting for you. If it does well, go for authority sites from there on.

Go micro and see if money is there to be made.

If so, go authority with a new site and build it out.

Why not go for authority or long term plan... Pick good name for that niche then create 10 different pages for 10 different keywords... Work hard and get ranking for them, later on start spreading wings again LOL go for other good keywords in that niche, you may try tougher keywords... This way you don't have to create new site every time you plan to target any new keyword... Saves money and effort in long run...
