Newish Website Published In November Is Not Ranking

Hey folks,

I launched a website in Nov 2021 with 67 articles. The website was built on an expired domain, that is clean and I have done no link building since the launch. It saw a blip of traffic in December (just a few dozen) and there were over 100 keywords in the Top 100. Many of those were in the Top 30.

GSC shows all of my articles as "indexed not submitted in sitemap" and if I do a "site:myurlhere" in google only 7 results are shown. I was using Yoast, removed it, installed Rankmath and submitted new site maps over one week ago and that hasn't done anything.

none of my other sites have this problem. the amount of indexed pages always matches between doing a "site:myurlhere" query and GSC.

As mentioned GSC does show "indexed, not submitted in sitemap" but its odd that they arent showing in the site:URL query and I cant tell if there is any correlation.

Is anyone experiencing something like this and found a solution?

7 and 4 results are probably a penalty. We have a thread here on bhw.

I experienced it once abd the website did never recover. Even after a year it was still 4 results.

Well that would be unfortunate. I looked and it’s actually just 3 results under the site: query. The other 4 are pages from the old site

many chance you can point me to the thread you mention?

Google has some really bad indexing issues nowadays and I suspect it is a measure to fight the many websites with automated content that started to pop up. I have very few pages indexed on websites that gain rankings, so although google sees them as doing the right thing, it has a hard time indexing their articles. I say you should be patient. You are still in the sandbox period regardless. I noticed expired domains still have to go through at least 6 months of sandbox period. Continue to do what you are doing and I think you will be fine
 
I haven’t launched any new websites in a couple of years. So this is good to know.

sad to hear about the auto content. I spent a lot of time and $$$ writing real content too.

do you think social signals might give it a kick?

I haven't tried it, to be honest. But some members here claim that enough exposure to make crawlers see the page again and again does help to have it indexed. But don't take my word for it, risk on your own terms:)
 
How long are the articles?

How thorough are they?

Did you structure the headings correctly to cater to Google's 'snippets' system?

How competitive is your niche?

Are you targeting lower competition/easier to rank topics?

Did you use content optimization tools?

How do you interlink?

I could use some work in those areas you mentioned for sure. The niche is competitive, but I have 2 other websites in the space that compete for similar topics and they've never had this issue. The content is good, original, and generally 1500-2500 words - at least long enough to cover the topic in detail. Hand wrote and no AI.

Surfer SEO has been used and the majority of content/topics come from lower strength domains. Whats weird to me is that Google Search Console shows the URLs as indexed, not in sitemap. They are in my sitemap for sure but perhaps Google cant read what I've submitted (not sure).

Also if search console shows them as indexed, I wonder why they wouldn't show when I make a "site:" query. I had a big keyword drop out of nowhere too. Its just odd that articles would be published, see a quick growth in keywords, then all of them suddenly drop off. I cant imagine where a penalty could have come from if that.

Kind of at a loss as to what to think. Could it be that I am stuck in the sandbox as mentioned above, could there be a penalty?

I just cant sort out what the issue could be.

Do another search on google.com/ncr

I had the same impression for one of my spamblogs, site: was showing only 30 results, google.com/ncr is showing the full 4,000 indexed pages.

I’ll give that a shot. What is google.com/nor?

that url doesn’t seem to work for me. Do you mean to search in another country by chance?
 
Dude I don't want to disappoint you but I ended up destroying website that has been affected by this. I have tried almost every single thing on my completely whitehat website with original human written content but the website never got recovered. It was ranking pretty well on Bing but not on Google since site:domain.com was showing like 4-10 pages only even the coverage section in the webmaster tools used to show all pages as indexed. It was almost 2 years old website.

I'm sorry to hear that - I wish that we could somehow sort out the root cause when things like this happen. Your scenario is exactly what I am seeing too.

Hey there - the site is in the exact same niche. When I run site:domain.com I still see a few pages from the old site indexed. 4 of the 7 that show in site:domain.com are from the old website. None of those show in google search console obviously though.

I just have no clue..

I started thinking that this can be niche related (some niches have different kind of restrictions) and that is the only I came up with. I built a new website around the same niche and now Google has indexed only the homepage even after two months.
