Newbie users mustn't create Topic

if u check new topics u see most of them are not about asking help

also old user has no passion to answer a repeatedly question

most of this topics are spam

a real user that are seeking for help he could take time and read an old topic and answer it

Here's what will happen if we ban newcomers from posting topics.

They will then flood other non-relevant topics with said posts. So the 'spam' moves somewhere else. We then get tons of messages in Support asking why they can't post topics. We also then get them producing tons of post count spam to get the account requirements to be able to post topics.

What would be your method for preventing this?

if they wanted to spam posts they would do now nothing stops them


not any robot spams 100 posts to get topic starting permission it doesn't worth for bots


as i told mixed requirement of post number and account age is works

even google and reddit has sandbox for newones

Believe me, they will. All of us on the Community staff could present you with evidence that would blow your mind.

Look, I hear what you're saying. Spam is a problem, repeated topics another, and we're aware of it and always open to suggestions to reduce it. But believe me when I tell you that your suggestion has very few upsides and many downsides. I tell you that from experience as an admin on forums for a number of years.

Spam and bot posting is an issue for every forum out there. BHW suffers from it more than most because it's such a large, busy and established community. We work on this subject more than we work on anything in Community. I personally set aside a couple of hours every shift to delete it, and that's not counting the work we do in removing it when it's reported.

We would ask you and the rest of the community to continue reporting. Only takes a few seconds. That is currently our best and most effective way of removing junk and developing strategies to preempt and combat it. Removing topic-making privileges from new posters would barely make a dent.

The only -permanent-solution to this is to make theforum pay-to-play: noone can post or comment without paying a monthly fee.
Of course, that severely limits how much a community can grow, so no-one will do it.

Mods could remove the report limit for premium members like me. I need to wait 1 minute to report again, I would report even more without this limit, we don't want it to be abused by newbies, but premium members could have this ''advantage''

Do you guys know what kind of reports I LOVE? When a member reports a new thread and says "I think this thread could be merged into this same/similar thread that was created this morning". It means I can quickly go look at both threads, see that said member is correct, merge threads and be on my way to deal with the next thing that needs my attention.

Yea, I get that the community staff won't always agree, but since I get to see the overall numbers I'd say we agree 90% or more.

So please, report it and make helpful suggestions. It'll make things go much faster AND you're helping out your community at the same time. Win win all the way around.

This was discussed during a Community meeting today and, as I suspected, the 1 minute waiting time is part of board software and there is nothing we can do about it. There are plug-ins out there that could deal with this but none we are confident in the safety of.

So, for now, it's a no for this idea but it is something we may well revisit in the future when our devs are finished with MP2. Thanks for raising the idea, though.
