Newbie here, very basic SEO question

Hi everybody, and thank you for your help.

so I have a pr 1 blog which is around a year old. I have made no SEO efforts yet.

My questions is that for some of my articles, when I Google search for a keywords matching the title and the URL of the post, they never show up, not on the first page and no on the 20th (note that other than the first two results there is no exact match). Other articles show up on the first page.

My question is why does this happen and what do I need to do to improve this.

Do some SEO and will see improvement, though if your're not targeting your article title to get ranked, then do not pay attention whether it shows up or not, if it's indexed that's enough.

Keyword density.
Bolding keywords in article.
Tags.
Meta description.
Title.
Headers.

Try creating some links to your website.

You can start doing this manually by making accounts at the top social bookmarking websites.

Begin bookmarking all of your pages.

Then, begin doing some manual directory submissions...

if you're running a wp site, install 'seopressor', that should help a bit...though, i'm not a slave to it.

It is very useful for beginners.

If you are searching key word chains in quotation marks and searching exact article URL's and finding no trace of certain articles, Google has not indexed those particular articles.

If this is happening and your blog is a subdomain off an authority blog site, like tumblr - there is something about those articles Google did not like. Not long enough, not rich enough content, duplicate content...etc.

If your blog is hosted by you, like its your website just in blog format, and that's where you are posting these no show articles, then the indexing issue could also be due to a slew of other potential factors related to your website and how Google views your site as a whole.
