SEO, Yahoo answers, Craigslist ads, Social Media, Social Bookmarking, forums that have artwork convos are just a few.

I have already used Craiglist, Instagram, Facebook etc etc. I'm looking for other methods, I've used the usual routes

As above, plus try deviantart to push your portfolio. Outside of that build a few web 2.0 sites, write content, add some of your portfolio, then link to your core / money site. Assuming you like design of various forms start using pintrest, tweet some of your work, and hey presto search engines start to like you and you'll start getting traffic.
If you are looking to target local business get a few citations and possibly try the 7878 method.

I recommend you trying to drive trafik from youtube, facebook ect. When you have enough experience try google.

I can recommend GSA SER, which is a backlink-making program (you do need to invest a little).
