Check this video out (not mine).
Everything is explained in the video, but to summarize it he tests whether having people watch a video at 0.25% will increase retention rate. And you can obviously tell it does, compare to all of his other videos view counts and reach.

The implications of this in IM could be really big. Wanted to share this with you guys immediately.

I watched this video yesterday at Normal speed.. couldn't understand anything, just slided to next to short as usual.

Again watched at slow speed, got it :p
Oh, you got recommended it as a short?
For me, I got recommended it as a video.

New? I did this 5 years ago haha.. I sped up complete movies, the viewer slowed it down and watched it..
Yes, but you were doing this to get around copyright strike. This is something different.
I'll give this one a test right away, thanks a lot for sharing it here!
Please let me know how it works out for you;)

Yall got played the trick was to get you to watch the video more than once. This is the secret for a clip or short to go viral.

Also look at the content on his channel, yikes I'm losing braincells. Its all about doing something ridiculous for views nowadays. Mr Beast started that trend.
Well definitely. Things they do for views is insane

watching at 0.25 speed does nothing for the algo. this video is clickbait which is why its performing well, no other reason. no where in the api is the watch speed reported back to youtube. requests aren't timed. its bullshit and you are falling for it.

In what part of the video did he ask you to watch it more than once? Sure, some people will replay it. But look at all of his other short videos. No greater amount of people are replaying the others than the one I linked. If the trick was to have users watch the video more than once, then why are all his other short videos not insanely viral?

Yes, nowhere in the api is the watch speed reported back to Youtube.
But, as stated in the video, watchtime is reported to Youtube. And the point is to increase watch time.
Now, it is clear that the time module Youtube videos are built around understand the slower playback of speed. This is evident when you click the "arrow" buttons on a video during 0.25x speed - the video only moves by 1.25s, rather than the normal 5s movement an arrow click would cause.
Therefore, based on that I think that this could be a working method. I don't know for 100% certainty though.
