    Hi guys,

So I have this idea for a social networking platform to offer a service that I think the major players have missed out on. I know it sounds like a HUGE idea but I want to take a few steps and see how it goes. I spoke to a few people so far they seem to think this could grow and grow BIG if implemented correctly.

Firstly, I am thinking to make a survey to see if people will actually like it. whats the best way to get as many people as possible to do it?

Where would be the best place to go for creating the site? I want it to be a top quality site.

What would be the best way to go about marketing?

Most importantly, do I want to have it integrated in facebook by creating an app or have it as a seperate site on its own?

I have a budget of around £1500 to spend on this project currently.

Let me know what you think and all advice is much appreciated.

Integrating with Facebook has its disadvantages.

Not everyone has a profile in Facebook, and those who dont are not going to register an account with FB just to access your app/website. Its best to make the FB part optional.

Thanks for the response. Yes - sounds like a sensible idea. Maybe provide an option to sign in with current facebook account or create a new one.

Update on the survey: I had 100+ responses back from the survey and around 90 of them were positive.

I would like to hear more thoughts on this.

ok so another update on the marketing front. I will need a lot of subscribers to make a social network site work. I will pay $5 per person for signing up five members. I will do this based on location etc. I will launch once 500-600 subscribers are in place so I have some people in there when launched. Any better ideas are welcome.

Best to go with other various social networking sites to get your site out there instead of focusing just facebook

for what reason are you doing web based first? I think it would be easier to market mobile with a website to redirect to the mobile app, then release the web based version later. That's what most of the newer networks did, idk though, I don't have much knowledge on this stuff, but it would be easier to market an app on the other social media networks because I feel like most of the users use the current networks from their phones.
