new social networking site - do I join with Facebook or stand alone?

Integrating with Facebook has its disadvantages.

Not everyone has a profile in Facebook, and those who dont are not going to register an account with FB just to access your app/website. Its best to make the FB part optional.

Thanks for the response. Yes - sounds like a sensible idea. Maybe provide an option to sign in with current facebook account or create a new one.

Update on the survey: I had 100+ responses back from the survey and around 90 of them were positive.

I would like to hear more thoughts on this.

ok so another update on the marketing front. I will need a lot of subscribers to make a social network site work. I will pay $5 per person for signing up five members. I will do this based on location etc. I will launch once 500-600 subscribers are in place so I have some people in there when launched. Any better ideas are welcome.

join facebook pinterest and twitter i find those the best for making things go viral

Best to go with other various social networking sites to get your site out there instead of focusing just facebook

Thanks for the responses guys. I am interested to know the thoughts about paying people to sign up..

What kind of social networking platform ?
Do you want to be mobile first like instagram or web first like facebook ?

It will be web based first might move on to mobile later on..

for what reason are you doing web based first? I think it would be easier to market mobile with a website to redirect to the mobile app, then release the web based version later. That's what most of the newer networks did, idk though, I don't have much knowledge on this stuff, but it would be easier to market an app on the other social media networks because I feel like most of the users use the current networks from their phones.
