New Panda Refresh Today!?! My rankings have returned

Hi Manny, thought i'd post my story.

I have a blog site with over 800 posts going back to 2008, I use the Internal Link Building Wordpress plugin that you have control over internal linking

My site got the unnatural link warning in early March when I went from #1 to #10, then when Penguin hit I went to #80 for the main keyword and all my other keywords and pages took a hit (from 50 upwards). Some keywords are not even getting picked up on SERP trackers

All content is 100% unique on my site. Ive done lots of link building from all sorts of different angles. Looking at the anchor text I over did it big time, I would say around 80% of my anchors are the main keyword

I have some sites come back from the updates back in February. I gave up on them and do not know if somehow the penguin update helped them. I stopped all backlinking and moved on - so it may have been a penalty.

Build a fair amount of links using naked urls, domain.com and Domain.com and that unnatural link warning will go away in WMT. Apparently the unnatural links detected are indeed calculated based on the number of exact anchor text matches. It took me about one day to get rid of that unnatural link warning for each site. Did it improve SERPS? Not really from what I can tell except for one site that fully recovered its ranks. And yes, I did this well before Penguin 1.1. Should the unnatural link warning message and Penguin be tied together, a delayed dismissal of the penalty may be possible. Say 30, 60 or 90 days from the dismissal of the unnatural link warning. According to what Google has said, I don't believe the two are necessarily tied. Google stated they had previously determined unnatural linking patterns, but eventually decided to display this information to webmasters.

Manny, I'm really happy that your rankings are back and truly wish you the best going forward, but I just don't see the "naturalness" of interlinking all the pages. Why is that more natural than the "silo" approach?

Penguin, designed to hammer those that have over-optimized, now tells us those H1, H2, H3 tags might be better off unused. Bold text on a page is now a "no, no"

I haven't really seen the above comments to hold true in the serps for my niches. Best site in the niche is still ranking strong, uses H1, many H2's and sometimes H3's as well. First page results still have same shit, some sites still using a lot of bold text. I see no pattern that can be trusted to follow to fix this........

Did you build with SB or other high quality links with useless anchor text?

I do not make the claim that interlinking pages is "natural"...I only make the observation that this is what the big authority sites do...

I think interlinking pages is one of the most unnatural things a site can do, but this is what big authority sites do and it doesn't seem that google thinks there is anything wrong with it or else wikipedia probably wouldn't be first every time someone does a google search...

for the silo approach, I don't know enough about it to really make a educated comment on it...

All my adult sites get ther rankings back and i get some really good PR+ :) So happy :)

The roller coaster is going dowwwwwwwwwwwwwn again. That's it. I am officially never checking the serps again as long as I live. Ever. And ever. And forever. Times infinity.

sorry to hear that...checking my serps is the most stressful part of my day and after some of the comments here I was even more stressed...

Had a major drop in ranking today, figuring its just a dance tho

I checked my rankings and they all looked the same, but then my affiliate account shows number of clicks for yesterday cut in half...

I have a VPN so I checked from various countries and my rankings were the same as a few days ago, so I'm confused...

Hey jb,

I've had the same thing happen to me,except I got 1/3 of the clicks I usually get and like yours,my rankings were the same as the day before yesterday.

Well. Are you only ranking high on Google?
After Penguin, lot's of people left Google for Bing because of the really shitty serp results.
I got a micro niche site that survived Penguin.
Before Penguin I got 80% of my traffic from Google, now its down to almost 50%.

I've heard about this from a couple of other webmasters too.
