Hi guys! I've been lurking on the forum for a few days now, learning how I can attract more people on Instagram. Figure I can get advice more specific to my situation... if I just share my situation.
About Me:
22 year old male. Starting out as a photographer / digital artist.
What's My Goal?
5k plus followers. 20% of them liking my pictures. 5% commenting. Most of them within my country/city. 0 fake accounts.
Vanity Goal: 20k plus followers. Mainly so I can claim to be the most popular photographer / digital artist on Instagram (in my country).
When?
3-6 months.
Why?
To get hired for photography and/or digital artwork, and command a relatively high rate for it, too.
The main tool for achieving that being social proof ("Wow, 5k followers? He must be pretty good. What's this? New pictures every week? He must be in demand, huh?"). Plus, focusing on digital art since local celebrities and attractive models aren't readily accessible for actual photographs. And a dozen irrelevant other things I'm doing to create the appearance of a "high-end" brand once they get sucked in.
How - Part 1: The Tools
API: Webstagram
iMacros for Firefox:
Comment + Like Script - It likes and comments on a picture every 60-150 seconds. Repeats this 10 times, then loads the next page.
Follow Script - It follows people on someone's Follower List every 60-150 seconds. Repeats this 50 times. I have to manually load the next page.
Pictures:
One local celebrity in the evening.
One attractive model in the morning.
Post on Sunday and Wednesday.

How - Part 2: Using Them
I plan on using the Comment + Like Script on #art and #portrait. Focusing on one hashtag for a week, before switching to another.
I'm using the Follow Script on a famous photographer and famous digital artist. They have 17k and 8k followers, respectively.
There's an unfollow script I'm working on to use at the end of each week.
Results:
After using these scripts the past 3 days, here's my data:
Follows: 220
Followers: 90
My 3 pictures have a total of 113 likes. Roughly 20 of those are from followers.
I average 2.4 follows for a follower.
Concerns:
My biggest concern is inactive accounts. I realise a big chunk of these guys' followers are just bandwagoners, so I've been researching a script that would follow only those who've liked a particular picture for follow backs. Can anybody recommend one?
Any other ways I can increase my follower/like ratio? I don't want to build an account with 5 gajillion followers and only 40 likes and 2 comments per picture.
Less of a concern, more of an unknown. As I imagine many of you were on your first online marketing venture, I'm also having doubts and am feeling a little nervous about this. Any information on what to expect (feel free to apply encouragement, if it is worthwhile) would be appreciated.
Anything else I should be on the lookout for? I don't wanna make an oversight that'll wind up
