Hi guys! I've been lurking on the forum for a few days now, learning how I can attract more people on Instagram. Figure I can get advice more specific to my situation... if I just share my situation.

    About Me:
22 year old male. Starting out as a photographer / digital artist.

    What's My Goal?
5k plus followers. 20% of them liking my pictures. 5% commenting. Most of them within my country/city. 0 fake accounts.

Vanity Goal: 20k plus followers. Mainly so I can claim to be the most popular photographer / digital artist on Instagram (in my country).

    When?
    3-6 months.

    Why?
To get hired for photography and/or digital artwork, and command a relatively high rate for it, too.

The main tool for achieving that being social proof ("Wow, 5k followers? He must be pretty good. What's this? New pictures every week? He must be in demand, huh?"). Plus, focusing on digital art since local celebrities and attractive models aren't readily accessible for actual photographs. And a dozen irrelevant other things I'm doing to create the appearance of a "high-end" brand once they get sucked in.

How - Part 1: The Tools

    API: Webstagram

    iMacros for Firefox:
Comment + Like Script - It likes and comments on a picture every 60-150 seconds. Repeats this 10 times, then loads the next page.

Follow Script - It follows people on someone's Follower List every 60-150 seconds. Repeats this 50 times. I have to manually load the next page.

    Pictures:
One local celebrity in the evening.
One attractive model in the morning.

    Post on Sunday and Wednesday.

    Picture Tags:
    #art
    #portrait
    #artist
    #digitalart
    #illustration
    #illustrator
    #nikon
    #photoshop

How - Part 2: Using Them

I plan on using the Comment + Like Script on #art and #portrait. Focusing on one hashtag for a week, before switching to another.

I'm using the Follow Script on a famous photographer and famous digital artist. They have 17k and 8k followers, respectively.

There's an unfollow script I'm working on to use at the end of each week.

    Results:

After using these scripts the past 3 days, here's my data:

    Follows: 220
    Followers: 90

My 3 pictures have a total of 113 likes. Roughly 20 of those are from followers.

    I average 2.4 follows for a follower.

    Concerns:

My biggest concern is inactive accounts. I realise a big chunk of these guys' followers are just bandwagoners, so I've been researching a script that would follow only those who've liked a particular picture for follow backs. Can anybody recommend one?

Any other ways I can increase my follower/like ratio? I don't want to build an account with 5 gajillion followers and only 40 likes and 2 comments per picture.

Less of a concern, more of an unknown. As I imagine many of you were on your first online marketing venture, I'm also having doubts and am feeling a little nervous about this. Any information on what to expect (feel free to apply encouragement, if it is worthwhile) would be appreciated.

Anything else I should be on the lookout for? I don't wanna make an oversight that'll wind up

This should be in the journey section, good luck and my advice would be investing in a cheap bot if you can't go for a good one, it'd get you started, manually doing it or imacros can be really hard. I wish you luck

    Thanks, guys. :)

Sorry if I put this in the wrong place. Also, thanks for the good luck wishes. :)

Tried doing it manually for 3 days. I couldn't stand the boredom after ~20 likes and ~8 comments. Today is my 5th day using iMacros. Pushing ~300 likes, ~300 comments and following ~200 people per day. :p

At what stage will I be needing a proper bot? 1k? 2k? 4k?

I think you're over analyzing the percentages and followers. If you want to have real followers, post good pictures, comment on other good pictures and become known in that niche community. If you're good at that, the numbers will naturally follow. If you just want to be the "most popular" on instagram in your country, buy followers and be done with it.

Fair point on over analyzing. It's a known habit.

Regarding getting "real followers", I was considering using bots/scripts to comment, like & follow just to get my pictures out there. Then, use IG Exorcist to cut the inactive fat from the influx of followers. Thoughts?

The 20k is a vanity goal. I wasn't serious about that. The whole idea of using Instagram is to putting my images out there. No point if I'm putting it out there to merely show up in the feeds of 20k dummy accounts.

    END OF WEEK ONE UPDATE

Relatively big haul this week. Peaked at 102 and 105 followers in a day. O_O

My trusty little scripts have been working their little binary butts off, liking ~2k pictures, commenting on ~1k pictures and following ~500 people. And I've been working just as hard (since I dunno a thing about programming) blindly tweaking them to be just right. Got a script up and running that can follow those who like a picture now. :)

I'm curious to see if following the likers of the photographer and digital artist I mentioned will work out better than shotgunning their follower list.

Black hat stuff aside, I'm happy my work is getting some positive reception. Some things are liked more than most, but I can't complain. It's all a learning process.

And with that, here are my closing stats for last week:

    Total Posts: 5

    Total Followers: 314
    Total of Likes: 325
