New Google Interface???

Guys

I feel like a bit of a tool for asking this question but I was wondering if anyone noticed the new google interface when you search.

On the left hand side, a menu pops up allowing the user to search by videos, images, news etc.

I thought there will a lot of noise about this on the forum but there hardly seems to be even a mention anywhere. Don't you think it will affect the click through ratios on your pages if they are ranking on the first page google.

For example, most 1st place results get about 25%-50% of the clicks depending on the competition. But now, with Google prompting images, videos etc, do you think that the 1st ranked Google result will get even less clicks than before. I was very disappointed to the see the new Google interface as I thought it would be detrimental. Did I miss something here or is this not really something to worry about???

Will like to hear your opinions.

Close your browser and clean all browser cookies...after that just reopen your browser you should get the classic homepage.

Thank god it can be changed... the new interface is a big thumbs-down for me.
 
I tried it too. It still stays. I hope the drop this interface. I am pretty sure people are going to get distracted with the images and videos column on the left and just wander away.

This is not good news if you are relying on free organic traffic from Google which is what I am counting on for the future. :(

I know it seems like(and may be) a big change in how many clicks you get from a particular SEO strategy that has worked well up until now...but that is the nature of the beast.

If you use their traffic and resources to make money then you have to play their game, no matter how unfair it may seem. Yes it sucks but what can you do about it other than roll with it, and work to understand the changes, and if you are good at it, reap the rewards that comes from learning something that works before everyone else does.

Google has been testing their new interface for a many months now. I have been watching it and more importantly the SERPs, but I have not noticed anything unusual in the rankings.
 
lol the interface is plain and simple, just like the old one; I think people need to appreciate what's free and create alternatives if they disapprove of existing projects.

Having said that, I hope that it doesn't turn into another Yahoo either, as mentioned previously. That'll be a total fail!
 
i hate it so much too - google what have you done? change it back please!

im not a person who is against change and google are always going to try things to better themselves but listen to your users too........
 
Google's change is for the users usability. We're not considered users cause we use SEO. Others that don't have a clue about SEO will probably like google's new interface cause it will be easier for them to find something that they're searching for.

it's really working, cookie cleaning won't help, at least it didn't help me

one more thing: include only google domains after you installed and enabled it, because it removes the left nav on other sites as well, like yahoo mail :)

after having more time to think about it

the new changes to me make want to only click the first 3-4 results of a google search query bcos i hate the visual appearance on screen so much. I feel pressured into clicking a link at the top of the page bcos there seems to be less space (cramped) to view search results and seems like less text description for each website seach result => harder to know if that is the site you wish click and visit bcos you have less info to make the descision on :(

puts even more focus on webmasters sites being in the top 5 google results for the keyword search if you want to get traffic from big G

like any major change it should be optional to use the new interface or stick with the old, instead of being forced upon us.......

You can sit there and talk about what you think Google should and shouldn't do for you all day long, but you're just wasting your time.

You'd be better off spending that time learning about the new changes and how you can use them to your advantage.
 
I agree that you just have to go with the flow but the reason I put the post out there was just to ask if people thought that they would get fewer clicks on the first page.

I guess there won't be much of a difference. Maybe about a 20% loss or something like that depending on what the keyword is. Anyways, thanks for all the responses.
 
Hah - there is ways around the 'new google search interface layout'

a simple google search on those keyword terms show that there are heaps of other people like me who dont like being forced to change to something new when the old version worked perfectly suitable for me

people are providing many ways around it

1. I never said I was an expert. Thanks for the compliment though.:D
2. There's no need for me to answer any blatant call outs such as yours.
3. I don't care if you like the old version or the newer version. That's great. Use it. What I'm saying is that you need to able to adapt to changes in this business. Otherwise you won't make it every far in the end.

hah! If anyone actually had thought of a way to benefit from the way things are changing I doubt they'd share it with someone who talks like an 8-year-old.

I disagree: Adaption is not always a requirement but right to free speech and to voice one's opinion is - sometimes people power can influence things enough to prevent unecessary change if they feel they will be negatively affected
