As of July 17 at 11:59pm PST, Facebook will deprecate the ability to customize link previews for Facebook group and profile posts, in an effort to reduce misrepresentation of link content. These changes will apply to all of Facebook’s API integration partners, including Hootsuite.

It will no longer be possible to customize the image, title or description of a link preview in Facebook profile or group posts. Pages will not be affected by this change until a later date.

Facebook pulls link previews from website metadata. If you share a link to a website that is not your own, be aware that it may not have this metadata available. So a complete link preview with an image may not be generated in some cases.

Note that Facebook profile or group messages scheduled to post after July 17 will publish without any link customizations. The links will instead display their default metadata, if available.
See View, edit, or delete scheduled content to edit your scheduled messages.

Refer to Facebook’s documentation on sharing web-hosted content to ensure that links from your own sites are shared with optimal link preview data.

To stay up to speed on what algorithm changes are being made, visit http://wallaroomedia.com/facebook-newsfeed-algorithm-change-history/ .

No, it isn't my site or anyone I know. It just provides an outline of what each algorithm change does.

Get's kinda frustrating at times, especially when you think you have mastered it. This is why it's good to experiment and adapt.

A lot of changes have been implement following the group-spamming and fake news era, and just when you think things are settled, another change takes place. But, it is also killing newbie competition and allowing those who are patient to work hard and generate long term revenues.

There was plenty of fake news circulating, and misleading titles to increase CTR on articles. Doesn't apply only to US elections but also to other niches.

this has nothing to do with that fake news crap. Its all about these bloody spammers that spam the crap out of facebook with their erotic thumbnail link preview images. You guys are messing it up for people that want to work legit with facebook. the majority are from asian countries, mostly from india and pakistan. I've seen some nasty links in some groups. WTF is wrong with you guys !

some of the images that they used for their links are illegal and in most civilized countries would be classed as a act of crime. You mofos are messing it up the whole system!

I can confirm that this is not the case - I know about FB pages that got penalized and all their images are completely family friendly. No spammers - all high quality content. Images are also legit. You just don;t know about them because they don;t want to have a fight with FB.
You are assuming that the FB algo is 100% accurate which is obviously not the case.

Google search for: "If you have been blocked, please chime in here... let's call attention to this!" (Unable to share links as I am a new member)

Facebook uses automated algorithms to "moderate" its site. These algorithms factor in multiple bits of information in how a report of spam (or abuse) is handled. Typically, it would take multiple reports from multiple sources in order to trigger an "alert" that labels you as a spammer (or as someone posting abusive content). This means that normally, one or two people being angry over something you posted would not be enough to get you blocked... and certainly not enough to get you blocked for more than a few hours or a couple of days.

That same algorithm also determines "punishment" for those 'found guilty' (by the algorithm) of violating the Community Standards. So normally, perhaps it would take 10 reports from 10 different users in order for one of your posts to trigger the alert that labels you as a spammer/poster of abusive content. The threshold for something like this is usually quite high - thus the reason it is often so hard to actually get rid of spam/abusive content.

Once that threshold is met, the punitive algorithm comes into play... 10 reports from 10 different users of ONE post you made? Maybe you get a 12 hour block. Dozens of reports from dozens of users on posts you made on multiple pages? Well, that's probably going to lead to a multi-day block.

    That's how things NORMALLY work.

But something is broken in Facebook's algorithm, and because they do not actually have human beings reviewing our appeals or this Help forum, they don't even realize it. Not only is the threshold that labels you a spammer/abusive content poster screwed up (wherein perhaps it is only taking ONE report from ONE user on ONE post to trigger the alert), but the "punishment" algorithm is messed up as well... this is why many of us have been blocked for a month, two months, three months or even longer. It is looking like we've been dumped into a permanent block.

The technical explanation is probably more like: a variable in the punishment algorithm is set incorrectly. So where the software should be reading - and giving - a one HOUR block, it is reading - and giving - a one YEAR block, or something similar. Essentially, someone made a typo.

No human being was involved in generating your block. No human being is reviewing the appeals you submit. You have fallen victim to an automated process that Facebook is apparently unaware has run amok.

Repeated posting of those "follow these steps/click 'helpful'/get unblocked" chain posts will only have one effect: they will get you blocked from posting here on the Community Help forums as well. They will NOT get you unblocked from posting on pages, sending friend requests, etc. Stop spamming every thread with those.

You are not guaranteed free speech by anyone other than the government. Only the government may not infringe upon your right to free speech. An individual corporation, such as Facebook, absolutely 100% has the legal right to "silence" you on their service, for any reason, at any time, regardless of whether you like it or not.

Here are a few more examples of a few obvious FB algo issues: (Google search for the exact phrase as I am a new member and unable to share links)

"Facebook removes, then restores, dozens of Catholic pages without explanation"
"Facebook incorrectly blocking links on my business page??"
"Why would Facebook block all links to a 100% legitimate website?"
"Facebook deletes and blocks all links to small social media site Tsu.co"

The link I posted is legitimate and if you do some searching on Google, you will find exactly what I've posted. I do not and will not post something unless I know it to be a fact after having done my own research.
