New domain extensions? What do you think?

There is going to be a release of a few hundred new domain extensions in the near future.

Such as:

.app
.blog
.cloud
.forsale
.limited
.london
.ltd
.mail
.online
.rugby
.shop
.site
.store
.web
.website
.wedding

I do think it is a good thing in terms of making memorable domains as the current system is getting a bit dated, making it very hard to get a good niche specific site without it looking like - make-moneyonline-253372.com

Although what do you think about them in terms of SEO?

The .CO tld has been able to achieve good rankings in Google. I just think it may be hard to rank for country specific areas unless we all jump on board Google Webmaster Tools and assign the domain to a particular country. Although I still think the likes of the .co.uk, .us, .de etc could get a natural boost locally just because they have been around for so long.

Although with Google being as clever as they are, they will probably deliberately make sites not be able to rank well for local terms unless they have Webmaster Tools, making us even more dependent on their monopoly.

What is your opinion?

I think that the new TLDs that icann has improvise are quite good. It allows people to target more specific on what their website is about such as .forum .shop, just my opinion i'm keen to hear more from others.
 
i think it depends on what type of sites are being developed on that tld. If you look at how we all feel about .infos, its because people where just building shitty sites on them.

If they are well developed then they will flourish, and hopefully push down the price of .coms, and also the price of many of the decent parked domain names too.

Yes definitely, I am actually tempted to get a few myself. Quite a large wave they they have declared all at once.
 
hell yeah sites like http://www.makemoney.online or http://www.get.cash are surely going to be popular!

I mean enough with the shenanigans of having to buy exotic country domains to get a somewhat memorable URL xD

Ye haha, I have been looking through a load that I think will be popular but a load have been pre-ordered lol

Like product.reviews and a load more! Going to make quite a few people a lot of money.
 
So how is this going to work exactly?
ICANN accepting company application then rest will be released to public?
 
As always, the really good names will be taken and sold as premium.... Still, one may get some above average, if acts too quickly.
 
I think they're effectively a waste of time. Having more generic TLDs slightly easier to get a brandable domain, however ultimately it seems like a ploy to get more money out of the big brands who need to buy every TLD variation.

Is the idea of .blog, .forum etc a good idea? Yes, in theory. In practice, no. How popular is .me for personal blogs, or .xxx for xxx sites? They still falls miles behind .com.
 
.COM will always be king with 2nd level domains following closely

then there will be everything else...
 
Will these new extensions have any SEO sense? Such as '.london' showing up in local London searches?
 
This is a good opportunity to secure some premium domains and then resell them at a high price later. Just the way there are short premium .COMs worth thousands of dollars today, you could buy short domains with these new TLDs, e.g. golfclubs.shop and it could be worth $,$$$ in say, 4 years time.
 
any idea when will they start or pre register?
 
Well I think, soon time will come when we have domain extension for everything either its moon, car, or a place.
 
If we manage to not blow ourselfs up, we should be able to take the internet somewhere new. Like .earth .moon .mars et cetera!
