    I have a competitor that goes to my site and runs searches for pages or topics that do not exist. The Search engines come by and crawl those searches. this results in a very large 404 report that is somewhere around 20 times more pages than the site actually has. The site has around 30 pages and I routinely see 7000 404 pages in WBT (I publish in 60 languages).

    Because I know exactly which competitor is doing this (I have extensive logging), I would like to redirect those crawled 404 searches in a fashion that most damages that competitor.

    What are your opinions about the best approach of redirecting the 404's pages in the most damaging way back to the site that is doing this?

    I usually have all 404 pages redirected to the home page to prevent anything like this from happening. I'm assuming you have his IP address, in which case there are numerous ways to achieve proper retaliation!

    Simple 404 is not a real issue.
    Google takes the number of different IP's that invoke 404's into account.
    If it's the same one - or small set of IP's calling de-indexed or none existant URLs over and over it will do little if any harm.

    If you know this guys IP/website then you could do a ton of things in revenge. Link spam for a start.

    I have the pages redirected to the a 404 page that shows the most likely searches the person would have been looking for with a timed redirect back to the home page. I have the URL's and the IP of the site. The site has previously attempted to blackmail me into taking the site down.

    I am looking for the most effective way of retaliating and causing them the most harm. I have spoken to their attorney and their attacks will not stop while the legal process is also to slow. Therefore, I believe it most effective to return the favors. What is my best approach?

    It pisses me off to see how people can be destructive in nature. Rather than putting effort on their on website they spend money to get others website down.
    The other day I saw few of my visitors were coming from a porn site. Tried checking my website link on the porn sites but I couldn't find them. So disgusting.

    Is your competitor making searches on your site? How does that result in 404? I would rather think he builds links to non-existent pages and that's why Google indexes 404 urls.

    The searches are conducted on my site through the search form. But those forms are accessed via proxies. I have most of the known public proxies blocked from posting, but not searching. When you search for a term that is not site indexed, and index is created. That index is open to the SE's for crawling. Like software, you cannot predict what a user might search for or do, but you can use that to create indexed links to topics that are near the search term. Generally this is a feature that helps the user. I never envisioned that it would be abused.

    To give an example of the abuse occurring, I cleared the sites 404 log. Half an hour later I checked it again and there were 150 404 errors - mostly to the foreign language (non English) pages. I cleared that after downloading a table and check again in another half hour, I had another 110 404's along with 30 attempts to use SQL injections.

    I have though about feeding a modified Flame or some other equally destructive worm back to them, but in addition to violating the host TOS, the SE's would pick that up fairly quickly.

    Whatever I do has to be entirely passive and something that they initiate through their actions. This is why I am looking into redirects that could damage them.

    If you were to follow Cutts, he pretty much admitted that spam links actually help a site rather than harm it in one of his recent videos. This rules out that approach. In addition, using Ahrefs to check the profile of the site that is doing this, I see that someone else had linked them out to about 100,000 of those vague bad neighborhood sites and that it only helped the site.

    Remember that if you NSEO their site, you'll probably get NSEO'd back. They'll figure out it was you.

    The best way is to solve this dispute amiably if possible. If not, NSEO him and be prepared for retaliation (take all the necessary precautions, but bear in mind, there will always be loopholes and issues you've not taken into account).

    OFC there's also the case where they're noobs in the NSEO game and all they can come up with is running queries for 404 pages on your site.

    Yeah I don't see any way that continuing the NSEO cycle is gonna help you. It is just going to intensify. I agree with what UrsuAke said in that you should probably just try to reach out and come to an agreement on resolution.

    It would seem that there is more going on than meets the eye. It would seem that someone is also buying me links through a Romanian site: valu.3x.ro.

    Here is a sample of the links they have been buying, and this is from WBT, and I manually verified the links:
    Code:
    Fetish pvc raincoat
    Car cranking fetish
    Anime bondage free
    Water bondage gallery
    Armpit fetish story
    Lesbian domination movie - Gay diaper fetish
    Bondage paper post
    Female fetish neck
    Fat fetish hairy pussy
    Best breastfed fetish friend i story
    Lactating milk fetish - Bondage kidnap fantasy stories
    Clothing fetish latex rubber
    Bondage daily domination foot free spankings video
    Bdsm clip free hogtied video
    Bdsm bondage slave
    Bondage dominatrix 1960s retro black leather biker hat
    Bondage models - Asian lesbian bondage
    Fetishism of commodities and the secret thereof
    Cigarette fetish movie
    Male cbt bondage
    Fetish globe leg
    Castration fetish
    Animal costume fetish
    Chloroform bondage
    Sweater fetish
    Lesbian bondage bdsm
    Pieds fetish
    Bondage cross dressing self
    Self bondage story
    Bondage picture sex
    Fetish gms links
    Sexy foot fetish
    Histoire domination
    Bondage heel high
    Animae bondage
    Erotic domination story
    White ankle socks fetish
    Fetish anime hentai - Bdsm female execution
    Domination smother
    Fetish domme
    Hand over mouth smother fetish
    Smoking girl fetish
    Bdsm jewelry captivity necklace
    Have just addressed it with the disavowal tool.

    Funny though, there is no "Unnatural Links" warning.

    I am sorry an agreement with these people is not possible. The site they are attacking is a Mugshots and negative content providers expose.

    For the one that ng rep'd. I am sorry that you do not understand what is going on. Allow me to give the dummies version.

    If you can create a none existent page and link to it. then you can create all kinds of havoc. Take a good look back at the information given.
    1. Using the site search to create pages that do not exist;
    2. Interim SQL injection attacks;
    3. Creating links from hard core banned/deindexed sites to those pages.

    Analyze:
    1. Create page that creates busy work for the Webmaster;
    2. Attempt SQL injection to further harry the Webmaster;
    3. Create links from banned sites through a third party;

    A. 1 is obvious, but only apparent if you closely monitor the site;
    B. 1 combined with 2, and 1 and 2 singly are distractions;
    C. 3 is the attempt to have the site deindexed and is covered by the noise of 1 and 2.

    That is the dummies version of how that is negative SEO.

    Go right on ahead and negative rep again for telling you that maybe you should not be on a blackhat site, especially in light of the fact that your negative rep was made at 7:05 and the post prior to this one, and the post that gave a synopsis of the links was made at 6:42.

    BTW: one of the reasons I am on this site is because it is a site that my enemies hang out on.

    I'm not understanding what you are saying with regards to your index being created (to list possible suggestions) and how that creates a 404 error.

    SQL injections are an obvious red flag as are those bondage backlinks. I'm just not getting why you couldn't do a redirect if there were no suggestions to prevent a 404 if that was the issue, or just add the script to the robots.txt file.

    It seems to me they're searching for known vulnerabilities to use against you, but you're not fixing the things in control on your server's end. That would have been my first call to action if i understood your script better.

    You would be mistaken in your assumptions.

    The scripts I use, how they are modified, and the security of the site are need to know information. Frankly you have no need to know.

    Already done. I am still looking for a way to exploit this and return the favor by using their artificially created pages as a return attack.
