Hi everyone,
A client of mine isn't treating me well...
Thanks to my work, his website is highly ranked with over 500 keywords.
I'd now like to quickly remove all references to the site from Google, causing it to lose rankings and keyword rankings, and making life as difficult as possible for the new supplier.
What's the fastest and most effective way to do this?

However, I'd like to avoid negative SEO with backlinks from spam sites.

We don't discuss negative SEO here. If the client is not paying you well, you can dispute it. If you're not comfortable working with him, move on with your career. It's better to talk to him and settle things or move on even with a loss on your side instead of wasting your time trying to hurt his business.

I protect my work, not his, in fact I don't want to do negative backlink activity...
 
Just move on, it's not worth it, learn from the experience and set up better payment methods to get paid before you do the work to completion for your clients.

Do you really want to live your life like that?

Forget it, move on to the next clients and do your best for the new ones.
 
negative backlink wont get you any result, you will just waste money and time. google ignores bad backlinks, just because people tend to abuse it

And indeed, I see the site starting to lose rankings; the only thing I did before handing over to the other provider was remove all the internal link architecture I had created, meta tags, and schema for each page (this wasn't an act of dishonest conduct on my part, as this wasn't part of the contract). The front-end of the site hasn't changed at all. The new provider didn't bother to restore or intervene in this regard; the only thing they did was purchase a backlink package that produced an "artificial" increase in DR. Since I see that for many keywords for which the site was ranked first under my management, I believe the site is starting to be penalized by Google after this massive fraudulent link building effort.

Worst thing you can do is harm a former client's rankings. Why would anyone ever hire you again knowing you would do that?

Better to create a similar site and outrank him.
 
I’d strongly recommend handling this professionally rather than trying to harm the site. Damaging a client’s rankings can have legal and reputational consequences It s better to focus on clear communication proper contract closure and putting your energy into new clients who value your work.
 
If the relationship has broken down, the safest approach is to follow your contract terms, transfer access properly, and disengage professionally. Protect your reputation, it’s worth more than short-term retaliation.
 
Do not spend energy on negative SEO. If you have solid contract in place, try to get the money. If not, just move on

u can remove your own work and access but trying to tank the site can backfire on you so better move on and focus on next client

there is no quick way. In various case studies of link building it was found that google values (or say gives 1 credit point) to a backlink that then stays for over 1 year even after you remove any reference or turn do-follow to no-follow or completly remove link. So any page ranking for that particular anchor text will rank for at least 1 year and then it will fade away.
 
You can try to use google search console to remove the unwanted URLs.
 
Removing backlinks can take up to 18 months to fully impact rankings, not just 1 year, as Google's algorithm takes time to account for the link loss. I've seen this firsthand with a former client's site, where we removed 250 backlinks and it took 14 months for the rankings to drop significantly. Using Google Search Console to remove unwanted URLs is a good start, but it's also crucial to submit a formal removal request to the webmasters of the linking sites, which can speed up the process by 30-40%. Additionally, changing the anchor text to a generic phrase can also help devalue the link, but this should be done before removing the link altogether.
 
I understand the frustration, but deliberately trying to remove a site from Google or tank its rankings can expose you to serious legal and reputational risks. That kind of action can damage your credibility far more than it hurts the client.

The safer move is to secure your access, document your work, invoice properly, and walk away professionally. Protect your portfolio, not burn it.

In the long run, your reputation in the SEO industry is far more valuable than short-term revenge.
