Negative SEO Help

I think we can all agree that negative SEO is a bad thing to do. Destroying someone else's website is not some sort of game. However, there can be situations where negative SEO can be a good thing.

Let's say I have a client named "Joe's Window Repair." Now, Joe's Window Repair is a very good company and always does a great job. However, there was once a situation where a customer recracked a window a few days after Joe repaired it.

The guy had thrown a chair at the window during a fit of rage. Instead of paying Joe to repair his window again, he says Joe didn't repair it correctly the first time and should repair it again for free. Joe refuses and the idiot takes him to small claims court. For some reason, the judge rules with the idiot. A reporter was there and an article was placed on the newspaper's website about how Joe's Window Repair was brought to court about an incorrectly repaired window and lost.

A few years later, when anyone searches for window repairing in Joe's city, this article is the first thing to show up, right above his website. Because of this, Joe's online reputation is being hurt tremendously. This article is destroying his business.

If Joe wants to do negative SEO towards this article, how would he go about it? The issue is, this article is on the website of a real newspaper. It's not some sort of small site and Joe has no desire to hurt this newspaper's website. All he wants to do is get rid of this article. Could he do negative SEO for this article and if so, how would he do it?

How come newbies keep coming here trying to justify their NSEO when really and honestly you are trying to bubble your site. I have heard these stories about Joe for months now. Just be honest, I am sure there are people who will disagree and also people who will help.

I don't need to justify what I do to anybody. I'm not a newbie in my field nor does this have anything to do with a website that I own. This is regarding a brick and mortar business. I have never done negative SEO against a competitor and I don't plan to in the future. I'm just trying to get rid of an article so the first thing that pops up for this guy's name isn't a lawsuit.

Yes that is what they all say. Just go to fiverr.com and buy some 1000 google +1 votes, 40,000 xrumer blast, 40,000 scrapebox blast and just use the keyword you want to get rid of as the anchor text.

No business will ever have "gleaming positive reviews", if one does, I'd be wary. Of course you'll get some unhappy people every now and then, the best way a business to deal with this is to reply individually to the article. Using Negative SEO basically means you're trying to shut them up, which from a consumer standpoint, would you want to visit or put money into a service that tries to desperately silence anything bad said about them? Of course not.

Nah. There's nothing like Negative SEO, mate. Google is WAY too smart to realize that people could hurt others' businesses this way. The funny thing is that you mentioned a negative review, and want to push that down. Why not work on bringing the other links from your client up? The term SEO is close to being a taboo already. Lets not spoil it further!
And read through the forums. There are places where sending in a truckload of links actually helped the site which should have gone down. What if it gets to #1? Would you be willing to take such a chance?

My suggestion is to keep the SEO and dont do NSEO to the article. Why? Because you said it is there for years. It might help the article to continue to out rank your website rather than kicking it out on the results.

I suggest to make few web 2.0 blogs or even buy domains for reviews etc. , then rank them to your keywords. this will be a tough work but it will be rewarding.

If you can occupy the 10 site in the first page with different domain or event different web 2.0 it will boost your reputation and trust..

Of course not. But let's say you're a doctor with an office called "Smalltown Medical Solutions." When someone searches for "doctor in smalltown" or for "Smalltown Medicals Solutions" this lawsuit is the first thing to show up. In fact, it is right above your website. Stuff like this has to be dealt with.

mickeyfu- I am asking specific questions about specific things regarding a brick and mortar business with one simple article on some newspaper's site. It doesn't take a genius to figure out how to do standard NSEO.

Will this still work if it's just a single article on the site of some newspaper? I feel like it would be lost in the rest of the websites backlinks and my only shot at slapping the article would be slapping the entire site.

This is good advice and I have actually thought about that. This is actually what I was planning on doing, because I'm not so sure I'll be able to NSEO this article. I'd rather just do a bit of NSEO if it would work, so that's why I posted this thread.

Yes it should work targeting the specific url of the article. I have removed articles before which were ranking above my site but just some part of a spammy link wheel.

How many times I have seen deindexed sites or sites that are not ranking due to an overoptimized penalty. This should work on single articles. At what point does google bot say:
0-100000 exact match links = Overoptimized penalty
100 000 and above is negative seo, lets save the site

I think to blast an article, don't use the name of the company it is ranking for, but use a very competitive kw in a competitive industry, this should do the trick.

I bought a penalty hit site, they were overoptimized with very competitive kw, and now I am trying to rank it for the domain name of the site. But nothing to do. It is penalized. No where to be seen.

you can try replicate this, by doing this, you are not pushing your keyword, so risking a little less that it ranks above your main site.

no justification needed, it's war because of the big G's actionss

Just create 100 or 1000 web 2.0 pages targeting the same keywords dominated by the negative article and work on pushing those to the top. In doing so, the negative article will be pushed out of search engine.
