Negative SEO doesn't work?

But what if the guy is outsmarting the system, by making the Google system believe someone is trying to do NSEO, Google does not recognize it is NSEO and for him it's actually PSEO after that.
What if he calculated it all...
I think we might be over thinking it, while I would guess that porn links might not hurt that site, I dont suspect that it will help it much either. Someone posted a thread where it DID help for a while but IIRC the site eventually came back down to normal. So ok, maybe it CAN help but I would not count on Negative, Negative SEO to try to get a positive.

Also you did not give us the stats of the #1 site, what was the KW volume, what was the KW difficulty, PR, NA, DA, Age of the site, how many pages of content etc... If he was blasting a wikipedia page, then I guess it wont move.

Only you know how strong the site at #1 is.

How many pages of content, how many searches for the KW and how tough is the competition?

But just based on that it does not look to me as an authority site just yet.

A lot of pages, site targets different keywords, around 83,400,000 for main keyword.
185k monthly searches.

The site seems new to be an authority BUT if it has a ton of content and some good backlinks they may already be considered an authority. I can only speculate at the moment of course.

Maybe so, maybe not.

Do you think that sites just dissapear because they have had a load of links thrown at them ?

Links rank sites. It can take a while for search engines to detect a problem and in some cases will never take action.
