Negativ SEO job

but if it was you, and your business/family's well-being/mortgage was in jeopardy, the testosterone would kick into high gear.

It would, but the thought process would kick in as well. And the thought process tells me that neg SEO is an unproven and possibly none existant theory in anything other than the shortest of terms.
Spending time and money on that - just cause my adrenaline was pumping?
Well, I might be tempted to give someone a blast of porn site backlinks for a day, but then I would get on with the real work.

Shortcuts or loopholes in SEO tend to get closed pretty quick and neg SEO is a lazy shortcut. Fill automated tools with shitty sites, links and content - and let fly
Even if it DOES work now, it won't work for long. It's just too fucking simple/stupid.
Google Pelican or whatever will come out and it will be. I can read the subscript now in Autumn this year...

"Those that looked to gain by actively over optimizing the offsite SEO of others, this loophole has been closed, Google now only counts [whatever] links with high relevance and contextual content"
(or something like that)

If SEO goes viral (if it exists) they will close any loopholes inside a week, and that's the end of your efforts, back to square one.
Again..if it even exists..that's if you get any benefit in the first place which is far from guaranteed.

I'd be looking for a long term, positive solution

Testosterone? Use your experience and skills in SEO. Leave your dick at home.

Scritty

What's the name of this forum again? BLACK HAT SEO? And there are people here saying manipulating a site's SERPS to be higher (in most cases than it should be) is any more "morally" correct than manipulating another site lower (negative)? Huh? Is this a matter of it's okay to break these Google rules but not these? Huh?

Can't you just use an automated tool to easily spam backlinks to low quality sites. Sounds pretty easy to me. How can this loop be closed as long as your algo figures in backlinks to the SERPS? Seems like you can't close the loop unless you take backlinks out of the loop. Ya, you can try to measure site authority, etc, but how is that determined? Backlinks! The only reliable SERP method is a human review. Web's too big now for that.

When you are the legitimate authority site for a product or service, and you see fly-by-night sites appear all of the sudden selling counterfeit product and ranking right next to you, it gives me no issues at all with using Negative SEO as a SERP warfare technique. Go for it. I'd like to see how Google reacts to widespread Negative SEO. They have to discount backlink weight in the algo is the only solution.

Like some other people said... Do your research, figure out what his keywords are and drop him by doing a social media campaign. So the first page is filled with your presence on social media sites. This is adding value for the customer, dropping someone with negative seo adds little value to the clients business (and ultimately you can make better $ if the client goes for it). Ultimately its up to you, for probably $5 you can get them deindexed.

Yes, I would.

IMHO you and people like you are lower than a snakes belly.

heck yes i'd take the job (obviously!), especially when it is a malicious site...no reason to stand there and let someone sucker-punch you all day...hit them back.

Have you considered that maybe the person has a legitimate beef that the provider has failed to address?

And what would "real seo" be in this case ?
rank 9 (NINE) additional sites just to outrank 1 ?

My god.. i have better things to do, seriously.
That site is no competitor, but a 100% hate site - why even ask ? i'd do it without thinking about it for a second.

Of course.

You are taking the wrong view of this whole situation.

Haha. Elitist :D

So his client pays his bills. asks for him to do service X. yet you are telling him to offer his client service Y ?
Im making 1-5k € a month. depending on the season. and i do whatever my customers are asking me to do.
because u know... they are paying my bills, amirite?

And sorry but no. you are NOT his client. because his client asked him to nuke that site that tries to HARM HIM. not to "fix" anything. read again, mister exclusive status donor vip sir.

You are also looking at things the wrong way. I will explain further down the line.

I would personally buy fiverr gigs (xrummer and scrapebox) and blast it off the map. Why spend how many hours trying to fill up the first page with a bunch of stuff when you can literally get rid of them in minutes. Quick, cheap, easy, and effective. NOW the only problem is that you have to worry about him doing this to your site, which shouldnt be much of a concern because chances are if he knows about it he will do it anyways since he is obviously pissed off. If I was him I would blast your site as well, which will probably happen anyways.

Retaliation can be worse than the original problem.

What IF you had an OFFLINE business making $100,000 in revenue monthly - and a client from hell creates a hate website about your business and your revenue drops to $20,000 .

After trying every issue to resolve the situation with said client, he still refuses to take down the hate site, and negotiates with ridiculous demands and possible extortion.

Would you do Negative SEO to take down his site ?

Never. As a business person you need to address the issues not create more of them. Letting a negative campaign get under your skin will tear you apart. If you are making 100k and have no reserves to weather the storm then you are at fault. You need to learn to live on less than you make. This guy will not last if he has to resort to these tactics.

To the ones that have answered YES to this question, you are not looking at the whole picture.

You can make more money doing things the right way. Negative SEO (if it works as there are no guarantees) will give you a shot of cash but it will be very short lived. You knock the site down and you are done. How much is that going to bring you $200, $500 or $1000?

Now if you sell the customer on the correct way to combat this, you can rake in the money. Charge for building the other sites and a monthly fee for ongoing reputation management. Depending on the size of the company and the difficulty of ranking, you can bring in hundreds or thousands of dollars every month for months on end.

It is not your fault that the customer is in this predicament but you also have to keep your reputation in mind. You also need to figure out a way to turn this negative into a long term positive for you as well as your customer. Repeat business is where the money is made not in the one time sales.

Pull your heads out of your asses and wake up to the real world. If you were operating real businesses this would not even be an issue for you to decide. Having a business license only makes you a legal business, how you operate makes you a real business.

The customer caused his own issues and will need to pay someone to have this rectified. In the long run, the use of other sites to knock the negative site off the first page will have longer lasting effects and have longer lasting income for you.

Most of you in this thread need to just leave the offline customers alone as all you are going to do is hurt them in the long run because you do not know what you are doing.

Negative SEO works, and is more affordable than even positive SEO, in the short run. While it doesn't help your client for a long term rise, it definitely fucks the competitor for a long enough time that they may even have to change their domain or waste money constantly trying to rebuild up their site. Bad ethics = good business.
