    Hi,

In my day job my boss came to me today and asked me to look for a solution to a problem we have.

Problem is regarding hosting webpages, currently we are running a very old internally hosted solution which is tied in with our email system named first class. Users can post / add to pre-made templates of there respective schools / classroom websites. The interface is very clunky and nobody really knows how to use it except us admins.

Can anyone offer any sort of advice on a solid platform that is hosted in the clouds and is very easy for users to setup and maintain the websites they create both for there classrooms and schools. It needs to be controlled centrally and we would require the ability to delegate rights to our users so enterprise class would be best.

    THANKS!

    Cl0zed,

Depending on the features that you require and the amount of money you want to spend, there are a lot of solutions that would be good for this. The one that comes to mind first is SharePoint, a Microsoft product. It allows admins to assign user roles and a feature of the software allows either admins or users (if allowed) to create web pages out of web parts that are programmed in .net.

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

    Hi cl0zed

If open source is an option: Check out Ilias (www.ilias.de) - Used widely among Universitys as it has been especially made for that (somewhat guarantees continued support) - can be integrated with lots of neat third party applications best suitable for virtual classrooms like: MediaWiki integration, Comet Chat integration, WebDAV interface, BigBlueButton...

btw. BigBlueButton (www.bigbluebutton.org) might be another solution to look at...

    cheers olystyle
