8.3
Look: the average is 7.8 and students are 20 so the marks are on total average 156.
- the new two students can get 20 or 0 on the average.
New values-- if they are intellegant = 156+20= 176
If they're not = 156+0= 156
So the new marks average is (156+176) / 2 = 166
Dovide it on the number of students
166/20= 8.3

This might be wrong I'm not a scientist

There is a mistake. 7.8 average is based on 18 students, not 20. Following this approach, answer would be ((7.8*18) + 10)/20 = 7.52

There was a problem made by fault in the answer I submited. Please check it back

nothing is missing. This is the correct question:)

I'm a government-employed high school maths teacher. Been teaching for the last two years.

To calculate the average of the 20 students given the average of 18 students, you'll have to know how many marks the extra two students got. There's just no other way around that, unless what you're looking for is an assumption and not a spefic answer.

Average = A = 7.8
Appeared Students = AS = 18
2 = Absent students

A / AS * 2 + A

7.52
Look: the average is 7.8 and students was 18 so the marks are on total average 140.4.
- the new two students can get 20 or 0 on the average.
New values-- if they are intellegant = 140.4+20= 160.4
If they're not = 140.4+0= 14.4
So the new marks average is (160.4+14.4) / 2 = 150.4
Dovide it on the number of students
150.4/20= 7.52

This might be wrong I'm not a scientist

The problem with this ia that you have found the average of the upper and lower limits.

You just lost all credibility to answer math questions....

Kidding of course, tons of respect for you, it can be a tough job. (My father is a retired high school math teacher.)

Tell us what is grade range, is it from 0 to 10 or from 5 to 10? Some countries have 5 grade for failing, and 6-10 for passing grade.

Thanks!

Yea, dealing with kids can be tough, man. Being a teacher requires that you wear many different hats, not just knowing how to deliver content.

Salute to your dad! How many years was he in the profession?

Oh boy, I feel you. I have few friends who are math teachers. It's the worst profession, because you are trying to teach things to people who don't want to learn. It's pointless, students don't care or want to know. And those who want to know usually don't need teacher at all, as they are ahead of the program. Students who love math get ahead of the curve, because high school math is pretty basic for those interested and talented for it.
