So.. I have been registered here for a a while now and have been an active reader for a while. I have to say thank for bhw for educating and expanding my knowledge. So here is my current issue...

I have my owned my own web solutions business in a very popular us city for about 6 years now.

    and...

I have a client that I provide SEO, web design, and graphic design to. I have built a great relationship with the client and have done a lot to bring his business from small time to now doing really good.

    anyways...

I was doing some niche/keyword research the other day and I ended up finding a really good domain name. Now here is the delimia I am having at the moment. The domain name that I found is perfect for the current marketing that my client is in, So I am not sure if I should offer the domain name for sale to him or to his competitors...

The domain that I found is the most searched exact keyword phrase which gets 1,600 search per month. The other main keyword for the market is 210 exact searches per month.

I am not sure what I should do here, I asked my partner, roommate, girlfriend, and I am just stuck... I have had experience flipping domains but this is a unique case here. I really wanted to see if another marketing/seo expert would be willing to chat with me on here or on skype. I would prefer to keep it private and talk to one other professional if we talked via skype.

    Thanks Everyone!

Buy the domain yourself and offer to 301 it to your current client first.

If you end up deciding to sell it to him: Register it. Put it up for sale on flippa under a fake username. Inform your client that the domain is under sale and how good it would be for his business and that you strongly recommend buying it.

EDIT: If you have any business morals. Don't sell the domain to his competitors. If word gets out it'll destroy your reputation.

It might just be me but I have a problem actively competing against a client of my own.

Dont bother - 1,600 search per month is not a big number if its not a buying keyword.

Unfortunately I'm on my way to a meeting... but for what its worth...

I have a real SEO business. If someone has been a loyal client of mine, I wouldn't buy a domain and then sell it back to him... nor would I go to his competition to sell it. I'm being paid by my client to do what's best for him and my other "projects" or ways I have of making money are totally separate.

It's not that I'm "mr pure", its just that I value my customers and think that when you're working for someone, the clients well-being comes first.

I'd sure let him know that I founds something great... and that I'm giving it to him, but I wouldn't try to make money on it.

That's just me. I want to keep a good reputation in the industry as far as how I treat my clients, and I think that pays off more in the long-run.

I look at his analytics every month and see the majority of traffic comes from the keyword which is the domain that i purchased. I know the competitors and the market, this keyword would be something they would all want especially if I outlined the potential. He is also found for related terms but I can assure you that this keyword phrase is the target keyword for their audience.

If it was the target keyword, why did it take you so long to see that it had an EMD available? o_O

Offering the domain to your client's competitor.. that sounds a bit selfish.

The domain was registered before and dropped not long ago. That is why I purchased it.

I ended up offering it to him and not his competitors. I have not heard back from him yet...

There really aint much to think about. If the guy is your client and you want to ensure he stays and keeps paying to be your client you know what to do
