Need to catch thief

Hi All,

So one of my mates camera + equipment was stolen (roughly 8k worth).

Was wondering if anyone knew a service or program that we could put the description of the camera into, so if the thief placed the item say on eBay it would flag it for us.

I doubt there is anything like this out there. Your best bet is to call the local authorities.
 
theres a service "google alert" that may work, ill looking around for alternatives atm.

Keep an eye on your local Craigslist. You'd be surprised how many of these jackasses list their stolen goods in the same town they thieved it from.

If you have serial numbers and a police report, then Ebay and others may help you.

thats a expensive cam .. not so easy to sell . so he will put is somewhere nationwide like eBay.

You're assuming he has a brain. Crackheads and thieves do stupid shit. And the more expensive the camera the easier it is to sell, not harder. You don't need to get top dollar for it if ya got it for free.

This sounds funny but it actually happened to me too. The video recorder had a 5 TB disk in it, it was a great set....the mf'ing thief took everything. His footage was probably in there but then he had the whole set so no use filming.


OP : Publish this on /r/photography on Reddit. They'll spread the word like wildfire. That's what Reddit's good for, not for sales ;)

My mom once made herself a dress a couple of years before I was born. Their house got robbed one day. A week or two later, she saw a woman walking around town in the same dress she had made for herself.

People really are that stupid.
 
Besides scouring CL and eBay, you can post in local photography groups on FB, the chances are that they will try to flip it on any of those places. This is maybe the most useful function of social media sites apart from getting filthy rich running our bots on them. lol
 
you can try calling FBI ? that's big amount. Hope it helps.
 
As someone mentioned already above, local crackheads/smack heads would be a good place to start.

Someone in the office just asked if I was okay because I couldn't breathe because I was stifling my laughter at that video.
