need suggestion on Wordpress blog side bar

I am a totally newbie in this forum so would hope to have some suggestions from you seniors. I have set up a blog and now want to have a sidebar where I can put my affiliate link in.

Which wordpress theme or side bar widget, plugins can do this?

Is there any recommendation of widget, plug ins of wordpress that I need to have to get better traffic to my blog?
