OP, I'm not sure you realize how vague of a question that is. There are a ton of factors to consider - is this a pure gaming machine? What is your budget? What sort of knowledge do you have? Is an off-the-shelf box ok, or do you want to build it yourself? If you want to build it yourself, do you have a good reason?

Your budget really sets the bar for this whole thing - you can build a pretty good gaming rig for fairly cheap these days if you have low requirements - especially with cyber saturday coming up near the end of the month.

Have you ever built a machine before? If not, you may want to consider buying something off the shelf from a major manufacturer, or a reseller. The reason is that its much harder to build a machine for cheaper than an off-the-shelf equivalent these days than it used to be. Usually I advise people against it unless they have a really good reason for it (wanting to know the quality of each component, etc). Plus with off-the-shelf you can get a warranty and support if something goes wrong. If you are building it yourself, you're the only person you have to rely on.

Look for New PLatform --- AMD Bulldozer. It is very fresh and not so many CPU's are available.
So if you want now you may choose between Core i7-990X(slower) and Core i7-2600(faster)

Also you need Top Video. Don't buy the latest Radeon or nVidia, just because thay were made to demonstrate to each other (ATi & nVidia) whose balls are bigger. But if you want to spend extra money go on top model of ATi Radeon HD 6990 - its the best nowadays.

SSD hadrdrives are not as reliable as traditional. If you will use it for system disk -- they will not last very long for you - may be 1 year of extensive work, maybe some more. (Technician frim DELL told me not to change my hdd to SSD, because of reliability). You can choose W.est.ern Di.g.ital R.A.P.TOR (10,000 rpm) - it's all good and very fast and no SSD technology involved. Also you can look for Black Series SATA3, thay're good enough for all your needs


Choose at least 16Gb of the fastest RAM available

Get the i7 extreme and 4 of the 6990 gpu's and 24GB of gaming ram.

I wouldn't build a machine if I were you. I bought a machine on ebay for 1000 bucks.

this will suit your needs unless you are doing some heavy video stuff in which case you will need to buy a decent video card upgrade.

You might save a couple hundred on building it yourself but this can be big hassle and if you don't know what ur doing it could be huge pain. Peace.

Is the 2500k the same as 2600k,just the GHz are just set different for "stock" settings?
