Need quick humanly advice.

I'm in Utah. And in Utah, the Mormon Church is very active in helping people regardless of religion.

I still have a few unanswered questions about them, seems like they are holding back something. In Utah, someone who REALLY wants help can always find help through the Mormon Church or from one of the many other organizations supported by the church. (I'm not Mormon, but they did help me a few years back with my rent. It was about 1200$, no questions asked they wrote me a check and asked me to return the receipt). I'm just wondering why they haven't seen a bishop at one of the churches. I might ask them about this tomorrow, and offer to take them to see a bishop.
That's what I'd do, the church is good at this sort of thing, they have the experience, anyway good luck , I hope it's a good outcome

What about the girl's future? She's 4-5 years old! She has a whole life to live. Regardless of your options, keeping the girl homeless is NOT a wise choice.

I'd also like to ask, what would happen to the girl if you call the cops? Don't get me wrong, I like @blogzandstuff church idea, but I think it's fair to know every possible outcome and have various alternatives before you make the big step.

People are so quick to judge me without even understanding thoroughly and not even knowing what kind of neighborhood or what state I live in.

I'm not a US citizen, so I'm not familiar with the laws regarding such situations in this country.
Because back home in my country they would take the mother WITH the child to a safer place. I wasn't sure if it's the same here or they only take the child - and I wouldn't want them to take only the child. Google says it depends on the state. I only asked to see what others would do in this situation. I'm not for separating a child from its mother in any situation.

Regardless of what anybody here says, I think you are a very nice person and you're just trying to do the right thing. Some people are very callous, they don't care, even if what they do will make a big impact in someone's life.

Just be careful. I've seen a lot of people hurt trying to help others. A case in point is that of those two men stabbed to death for trying to defend two teenage Muslim girls in Oregon.

As someone said here, you can engage the help of a church.

Drug addicts should never have childrens, so if USA government takes away that child that should be the reason for that, not because they are homeless.

Also why do you want to get them funds for paying rent? Chances are they will use that money to buy drugs and live like they were living before just at some other location.

@swon Thank you, truly.

I need to hop offline for a little while, but once I'm back I'll clean out the thread and handle infractions.

Such a great option the orphanage. Nobody loves you but you live in a house, so great. /sarcasm

There are obviously more benefits from an orphanage than just "living in a house", what about education, clothes, medical treatment? You might think this is a bad option, but it's not worse than keeping her homeless right?

Yes it is.

An orphanage is nothing but an excuse to syphon money from the gov't in the US. No one cares about those kids. They're just paychecks until they turn 18. Then they get kicked out.

And putting the kid in the system at 5 years old is just like branding her for failure. She's gonna be emotionally fucked up for the rest of her life, have abandonment issues and all kinds of other crap.

@swon Get the kid some puzzle books, coloring books, crayons and pencils. You can get these items at any dollar store. It'll keep her mind occupied. If she can read, get her a couple of books. Again, dollar stores are perfect for this.

Also maybe get her a plush. It's something she can hug while she sleeps. It'll make her feel better. I still sleep with stuffed animals. It's not necessarily about playing with it, but more about security and good memories.

It's summer time so there may be outdoor work the father can do, like mowing lawns or weeding gardens. Walking dogs. Washing cars. He can easily make money doing these things. Make the suggestion.

Maybe the church can even pay him to do a few jobs.

I know some people really don't like to take handouts so try to coax them gently. If you have to, tell them to think about what's best for the kid.

Also they may be able to apply for gov't assistance, like SNAP benefits and medical care for the kid. In Illinois they hand that shit out like candy, but idk what it's like in Utah.

You're a good person.

Interesting argument, although, I'm still curious... Will the kid get education, clothes and medical treatment if she goes to an orphanage? Also, what's your view on the kid's future if she stays homeless?

They don't let you attend public school in the US if you don't have a permanent residence?

I don't live in the US but I know they don't.

what about education

I suppose some orphanages provide education to the kids who live there right? I'm not sure so I asked.

I also took the time to google this education topic and found this:

calling cops is a bitchmade thing to do. Never call the cops. i would want them out of my neighborhood though but I live in the burbs where that would never last long.

you need an address to determine what school you go to, basically. Nobody wants poor kids at their high end school. Don't know what happens if the kid is homeless. I'm sure if the parents cared they could make up an address. I don't remember how they verify it if they do at all.

They prolly having the kid steal stuff for them. lol

I googled a bit and I see that Texas and Maine do. Didn't bother checking for any other state, feel free to point me to your source that says they can't.

My apologies jazzc. I was totally not in topic when I wrote my comment. I'll explain myself:

They don't let you attend public school in the US if you don't have a permanent residence?

At first glance, I didn't understand the context of your question, but now I get the purpose of it; in my comment (#32) I was asking if orphanages have an educational service, so coming to reading your question I was kind of confused.

Here's what I meant with my response (#34):

I currently reside on the northern side of Mexico, in a town near Mexicali, Baja California. My town has a border crossing so parents sending their kids to study in the US is very common here, The only problem is that you need an address where you supposedly live (permanent residence).

So I totally forgot we were on the homeless topic. Again, my apologies.

It was really nice of you to buy things for them. Don't call the cops, instead try and get to know them more. Maybe point them to the Church and suggest they ask for help, and if they don't want to do that ask them why.

I am not sure if they can land a job at this point, but any job even a minimum wage one would be of great help to them.

So... Twist of events.

The day after I posted this thread about the couple living out of their truck, my apartment complex management told me to vacate my home...

So i'm in my early 20's, international here in the US (green card) with absolutely no family in the US, and no friend(!s) in Utah. What i make, i pay my living expenses and send back home whatever is left over. Early June my kid brother got accepted into university back home, and a prestigious one, he deserves it and i'm very proud. But in order to hold his spot he had to pay half the tuition up front due to high demand and very low acceptance rate. So i sent him the money.

Same night i had made a money order to pay my rent the following morning when the apartment complex office opens. Next morning between 6 and 8 am someone kicked in my door, stole a laptop, an ipad, mail papers (probably later identity theft) and had taken the money order i had made.

I had asked my apartment complex manager if he'd let me pay June's rent along with July's rent together in July since i had this unexpected situation to deal with. The manager was a very nice guy and understanding, he has helped me out with late payments before, (i've been living at that same place for the last 7 years), and he said thats okay.

Thursday morning a new guy comes knocking on my door, tells me the property owners have fired the management company and that he is the new manager. He told me i was the only one behind on my rent and the property owners were pissed. He said it was unacceptable with him. I explained the situation, he said "pay before the first (of july), or vacate".

Around noon an attorney called and said i should pay the past due balance before the first, if i dont, he will get a court order to kick me out and call the sheriffs department to remove me from the property, and i will then owe June and July's rent + attorney fees (attorney fees about 890$, so about 3k in total) and i wont be given any time to gather any belongings when the sheriff shows up.

Called a friend in San Francisco, he said he'll try to come up with money since he is also international, i was about 700$ short. My day time job said all they could help was 200$. My bank said as long as i have a credit card in negative, they cant overdraft my checking account.
So, shit.

Friday, attorney calls me and says i have until 5PM to vacate, or I can join him in court and explain my situation to the judge, and he said i really dont have a chance with the judge. I called a free legal advice firm, and they confirmed that in my district it was almost impossible to be excused by the judge for a few more days.

Okay, now my back is against the wall, i got 254$ in my pocket, what should i do? Called my friend again, he said he couldnt get an advance on his paycheck, told me to get a ticket and come to SF to live with him rent free until i got back on to my feet.

Airplane tickets were out of my budget, so i got a greyhound bus ticket for 151$, packed 7 years of my life into a small luggage bag and a backpack, left behind all my furniture, coats, jackets, and other clothes and items i didnt have room for and vacated the property at 5pm. Grabbed an Uber to the bus station and waited. At 11PM the bus was in motion.

After a few stops here and there, we arrived in Reno NV, (yaay half way there). I transfered onto the bus headed to San Francisco.

So now as i'm writing this post while riding the bus, its 9 30-ish AM, headed to San Francisco, the most expensive rent in the country, with 7 years of my life stuffed into 2 bags, 64$ to my name. Bus stinks of piss, some of weirdest people i've ever seen.

P.s. i did give all the food and some clothes, blankets, pillows and 20$ to the couple living in the truck.

I apologize for the long read, i'm bored on this bus, kinda scared (???) And excited at the same time.

Another 4 hours to go. Mean while, any advice or suggestions on do's and don'ts, go's and don't go's about San Francisco?

Now i'm "homeless", lol.
