Hey everyone,

I’m currently managing a website that primarily targets India, but I’m planning to expand its SEO focus internationally, with the USA as the main target market. Since SEO strategies can vary significantly between regions, I’d love to get insights from experienced SEOs who have worked on international expansions.

Whether its related to Keyword Strategy, Technical SEO, Content Strategy & Localization, Backlinks, Competitor Analysis & Tools or Local SEO Considerations.

SEO tactics don't really change that much because region changes.

Local link sources will be different of course but acquisition is similar process.

Content is pretty much the same as well. Only difference is that in non-English search you can be more aggressive and get away with it.

Focus on technical SEO (hreflang, site structure), localized content, and high-authority backlinks while adapting keyword strategy to U.S. search intent—competitor analysis is key

Pages are ranking well in India, but the problem is Google is not even showing these pages in USA SERPs, sometimes they rank in the top 20 for a few days, but then again, not losing ranking, directly out of SERPs. And then again in the top 20. I think there might be a technical issue or anything else that causing this situation, I'm just not able to find out.

Expanding from India to the USA requires adjusting your keyword strategy (US search intent differs), technical SEO (use hreflang if needed, optimize for US servers), content localization (adapt language, references), and backlink strategy (focus on US-based links). Also, analyze top US competitors and, if relevant, work on local SEO with Google Business Profile and directories.

Use hreflang tags for sure, optimize for core web vitals, and build links from US-based sites & directories

These points may help you navigate this transition effectively:

  1. Use Hreflang Tags
  2. Localize Keywords
  3. Tailor Content for U.S. Audience
  4. Focus on U.S.-Based Backlinks

I was in a similar situation as you when I moved from SEO for Indian market to US. Initially, I was quite confused because of the difference in keywords and user approach. So, it is very important to pay attention to keyword search habits research.

If you want to improve your website's ranking on us search engines, try to acquire backlinks from us websites within your niche, and try to optimize your content for your targeted audience.

Expanding SEO from India to the USA is a great move For keyword strategy, consider using tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush to find region specific keywords. Also, focus on localizing content to suit US audience preferences.

Analyze the website data and keywords through Semrush and Ahrefs, and then optimize your website for the core keywords.

Expanding from India to the USA requires reworking your keyword and content strategy around U.S. search intent, SERP competitors, and local terminology. Make sure your technical setup supports international targeting (hreflang, location-neutral signals), and build U.S.-relevant backlinks to establish authority in that market.

A fresh competitor analysis for the U.S. landscape will guide both content creation and link-building priorities.
