So I have this excel sheet that is a database of thousands of investors, venture capitalists, etc... Now, I was talking to my dad, and I asked him if he knew any companies that were looking for investors. My idea was to just sell them the excel sheet for chump change and let them figure out the rest. But of course, my dad immediately called me an idiot and said this:

"Look, first you need to make sure that you can offer exactly what the company is looking for. For instance, I'm in talks with an oil company that is looking for funding, but without having to give shares. They want it to be a pure loan. I know other companies that are more flexible. My point is that your information is only worth something if it saves them time and/or effort, or if it makes it otherwise easier for them to get the funding. So you would need to go through those investors one by one and get their requirements in terms of documentation, collateral, processes, etc and categorise them so if your client tells you the kind of investment they want, you at least know who can and cannot do it."

So I was thinking of using AI to scrape the required information from their websites, but I soon realised that they simply don't post that information on their websites. One would need to contact them. So I was thinking of a straightforward cold email where i straight up ask them all of this, but how? There's thousands of emails. Where do I even start?

Any ideas?

Wow... No replies... Maybe I posted this in the wrong section?

So... Nothing... Ok. If a mod could help me close the thread...

The fact that you've done your research and gotten good advice from a third party makes this a tad above the average "How to money on internets please?" thread that pops up in this section. The problem you're trying to solve here is complex, hence no replies.

What you have here sounds like it has some value. Like, why wouldn't companies looking for funding be interested in a list like that? That sounds reasonable, doesn't it?

The problem is that things aren't usually done this way. I can hardly imagine a company that is worth investing into that would be looking for a list of VCs to call. Representatives of that imaginary company would instead go out and network on shows, expos and other boring-ass big-business activities. Investments are risky affairs that require trust from both parties and starting out in the least trustworthy way possible (phone or email contact without any previous introduction or a trusted intermediary) is the absolute worst.

Besides, thanks to inflation, central banks' interest rates offer you a higher risk-free return rate which makes private equity not as attractive as it was just three years ago. I guess, if your customer is unable to get money from an investor on your list - it's their problem, but still, the actual value that your list can create right now is very slim.

You'd probably be better off using this list to sell financial and insurance products tailored towards wealthy individuals/holding companies or sell this list to companies that would do this job for you. Now, simply cold calling to sell such products may be heavily regulated where you're located and I can't speak for profitability, but this sounds like a better use for your list than trying to sell it to people looking for funding.
