Need help !!! Am i being ripped or is it fair

Hi all

Recently after some research i hire a romanian web design company for our web design. The deal was for 1100$ and i only asked hem to give us some jaw dropping site. Which they promised and i paid 40%. The design that i recieved were so pathetic that i wish to show you guyz but they were simply plain simple template styles. After some days of communication i made the design myself and gave them as sample which they totally made like i gave instead extracting idea and giving something valuable.

To cut the story short the site has about twenty pages with home page and product page being two only what they made and totally as per my spoonfeeding. Other pages are simple like company policy, professional details etc

They took 18 days for this and I was in hurry as too much pressure from superiors to finish the project and asked them to make the site live and do the changes later on as it can satisfy the superiors hat the site is alive. They agree and asked for the remaining money which i paid and after somedays when i asked them to do some changes they are asking for money for each edit. I said it was a deal to do changes after upload but they keep saying its something new new. Of course it could be new as the site was not finished and uploaded.

I really need your suggestion as basically only two design pages they charge 1100$. Is it right. And for each change they just simply create a custom field menas no proper system. It is an ecommerce site where customers can buy and when i asked to put show related products they said its a new work nd will be charged.


I am really depressed as what to do with this. Should i open a dispute on paypal which they said we have to put the sight down till the dispute. I wish i could post my site here to get reviews and let you feel my pain for 1100$. Please mods can i share. So you guyz can help me in this. Really in very bad situation.

disput will not work because they delivered something.
the quality of design is always in the eyes of the person and different for everybody.
you should have checked there sample work if you like them or not .....

Hate to say it depends -- but it does. Did you have a contract? I always have a contract where you pay x dollars upfront, x after theme is designed, x after site is live and rest after 30 days.

Depending on the CMS used(if you used one) adding a related products is a change, and you should pay for that if that functionality wasnt specified upfront.

1100$ is not a small amount. If you are paying that much then I at-least expect them to be professionals but that definitely doesn't seem to be the case here as per you say. As for the quality of service I cannot really say what they did was worth it unless I see the site (PM me the address & I might be able to give you some insights).

Also man, not to be harsh on you ,next time please use an escrow service like Freelancer or Elance or some sorts whenever a high amount is involved this way you can have some sort of assurance also be able to hire some credible people.

It is wrong by their side to ask for more money for additional changes, but it was your mistake for paying them the total amount before the site is finished, and you made the bad choice in working with people like them.

Dispute all transactions, they shouldn't get away with this. What they delivered was incomplete. You should also call paypal after this and push a bit or else you might lose.

Question to you is, why did you pay them when the job isn't finished yet? Part of the deal is to get it done, right? Have you checked their work or even asked them for samples before hiring them?

Unfortunately paypal doesn't support disputes for non-physical goods very well. I had a similar issue and after hours on the phone I was able to win my dispute. Your best bet is to say your physical source files (ie. on a physical item like a cd) were not delivered.

I do not know how you paid the 2nd payment when you were not satisfied, but as you have it could be seen as a conclusion of the contract. Try and aim towards their moral side and ask them to make changes. Good luck!

There are some quality web designing services here and the price is 4 times lower and quality excellent.Next time check some services here before buying

The question is unanswerable with seeing the site.

$1000 for a 5 page website is a common price, and cheap for an ecommerce site You can get it done for half that, or ten times that, and the quality might be the same. It's all on the buyer to check their portfolio, know what they want, and make sure they get it before accepting the site.

If it wasn't in the original specifications then it's extra work plain and simple. Companies and individuals quote on what you ask for. If you want to add something that takes 4 hours to do then that might be all the profits gone.

If they actually designed and built a custom site then the price doesn't sound excessive.
On the other hand if they cobbled together a site with a ready made template and you are unhappy, then it looks like you have been ripped off.
