Hey everybody,
I recently started trying to do some offline marketing selling webdesign and hosting. I have a hot lead, but I want some feedback on some pricing I may propose to the client for content creation. Just a note, this person is not stupid, has been on a project setting up a web page for a previous company that used technical writers for their content. This is also my first hot lead, and if I get the business it will give me the funds I need to really get going.
This client has 11 topics that require *real business knowledge to write - this is probably MBA level stuff that will be dumbed down a bit for the website.
I looked up the mean hourly wage for a technical writer, and it was about $35 per hour. I figured in a 20% markup so my hourly charge to the customer would be $42 (although I am not charging hourly, I am charging a flat rate for a package deal). I also figure that if I write these myself (I may outsource, haven't decided), it will take me 3 hours to write for one topic (500-700 words) which includes research time.
I won't bore you with the excel calculations (customer charge = hours * topics * hourly rate), but I have come up with the following packages to offer the client:
Packages
11 pages (one for each topic, being 500-700 words): $1386
6 pages (each page will cover 2 topics, 250-350 words per topic): $756
3 pages (4 topics on each page, with a brief description paragraph): $378
What do you guys think? Here are a few more notes: I think I am under priced but I need the business. I am also not trying to gouge the client on the price, I want to offer something that is fair market for both of us. I am not willing to work for nothing, I will walk away before that happens. The client is in business consulting dealing with C-Levels. I checked odesk but of course those prices are low because they are trying to outsource to other markets.
need feedback.
Thanks,
Lumien
