I have a client that knows some SEO. He knows what a backlink is. He knows how to check a website's backlinks and he can tell if it's white hat or blackhat. and he builds some white hat backlinks for himself.

right now I need some big computer/SEO related terms to tell them to make them impressed and confused. why confused you ask? because if they feel confused, they will believe they cant do it themselves and pay me to do it.

can you give me some ideas? some sentences that sound "techy" and confusing?

Why you want him to be confused? Just rank his sites and he will be impressed.

Do not confuse them tell them the truth. And stress on the fact that if things are not done properly, their site may get penalized in google. Show them some real life big penalty stories and case studies.
And assure them that you can handle the things properly :)

Simply use "Guaranteed: We take any site from Rank#1000 to Rank#1 in 2 hours in Google", and see the potential client taking out his purse within 5 minutes!

Then do it as you say, ofc... nothing is more simpler to get your profits up above the clouds.

Or, just convince him how your expertise (if you have one in one of those SEO topics) will be positively helpful for his sites and he will try your service with more trust.

Well you can say "I will build backlinks to the backlinks of the backlinks you already have so their for you will rank #1 with these backlinks that you can ONLY get from me"

Deal done, Ill accept 15% of whatever you guys come to agree with.

Strange way you choosed, when I talk to clients, I try always to speak very easy language, explaining them what is good or bad links in eye of google, how seo work, what seo noobs do and how it can harm them company and then I give them plan and ideal solution for them niche, when they understund for what they pay and how much work involved and what the differents between you and other seo companies, they start to trust you and pay a good $$$ for seo.

So my advice: BE HONEST WITH YOUR CLIENTS

OP, begin a light friendly SEO discussion with the client, get him to talk on his topics, talk on them with more expertise, and THEN tell him how much more your experienced service can practically add to his theoretical SEO knowledge and to the success of his sites. Win him over his own plusses, and tell him you will add a lot more SEO success strategies, which he would be in awe once he notices how fast and positively they worked! There is nothing more convincing than winning a potential customer on his home turf during the pre-sales talks.

Then, of course, you begin the serious sales talks and close the deal positively.

This is the most backwards approach you could take to anything. If you want a client to trust you (which is what ultimately makes the sale and then keeps making the sale month after month), you simply need to be knowledgeable and intelligent and speak wisely on your topic. People can smell BS a mile away, and that's exactly what you're setting about to do - give your client BS. It's a massive fail.

All that you really need is to know SEO. It seems like you don't, and that's why you're trying to 'confuse' your client. Forget about that - just rank his damn site.

EDIT: Ps - and on what planet do big words impress people? Technical words do NOT impress clients - they just piss them off.

Builds whitehat backlinks? Just use phrases like Panda safe, Penguin safe, Matt Cutts approved spam links.

informed client is the ideal client mate.
he knows what he wants and he will appreciate your work if you do it right.
Rank him and you will impress him. Show him some nice word you have done and he will be impressed.
Don't try to confuse him, show him that you are the best :)
i am doing SEO for the company i work on 1/3 of their sites. (with my own PBN), but we never cut the SEO company which provides us SEO for the other 2sites.
you know why? because they are good and they deserve our money. we are 5 years at #1 and gained alot from their ranking, no reason to cut them and start from zero on 2 websites.
can i rank those 2 sites again? yess i can, but will need 3-4months. can the company effort losing incomes for that time? NO they cant, so we keep paying and keep earning and both sides are happy.
if you are good and know what you are doing, no need to confuse him, just show him what you can do. rank him up so he can earn, and he will pay!

    Best wishes.
    Leobar!

PS. how the hell can he add white hat backlinks? i hope you understand that whitehat is making a good site and wait to get backlinks naturally. if he is adding em, they are far from whitehat.
