[NEED ADVICE] How to determine which DDRAM is dodgy?

Hey, please share your knowledge how to test operative memories in bulk but to be able to see the performance of each other :?

confusing? .. hummm, here is a short story:

Just bought 4 2nd-hand 1gb Kingston DDRAM-s
1) After I installed them at the very beginning - pc was bleeping, saying that there should be a problem with cabling or ram.
2) I removed all of them and placed in different orders (twice) and everything was fine.

still I feel that before with 1.5gb ram my pc was running better than now, so I decided to compare what says my system..

And here comes an indicator of problem:

what would you suggest to do?

Are you sure your video card is not taking the rest of the ram? Find that and adjust what your video card takes.

hi. thank you for the suggestion, but before when I did a combination of 1gb + 3x512mb rams - system showed correct number =2.5gb

im guessing your on xp
xp can only run upto 4 gig of memory but it will never show 4 gig
only about 3.2 - 3.5 gig . so if its xp that display is correct

win 7 depending on your os if its 32 bit 4 gig max
if its 64 bit u can run 16 gig

so if your on xp the memory showed is correct.



In 32 bit Windows operating systems, the total addressable space available is 4GB. If you installed total 4GB memory, the system will detect less than 4GB of total memory because of address space allocation for other critical functions, such as:

- System BIOS (including motherboard, add-on cards, etc..)
- Motherboards resources
- Memory mapped I/O
- Configuration for AGP/PCI-Ex/PCI
- Other memory allocations for PCI devices

Different onboard devices and different add-on cards (devices) will result of different total memory size. e.g. more PCI cards installed will require more memory resources, resulting of less memory free for other uses.

This limitation applies to most chipsets & Windows XP/Vista 32-bit version operating systems.

If you install a Windows operating system, if more than 3GB memory is required for your system, then the below conditions should be met:

1. The memory controller which supports memory swap functionality is used. The latest chipsets like Intel 975X, 955X, Nvidia NF4 SLI Intel Edition, Nvidia NF4 SLI X16, AMD K8 and newer architectures can support the memory swap function.

2. Windows XP Pro X64 Ed. (64-bit), Windows Vista 64, Windows 7 which can address more than 4GB memory.

no I understand the results of performance test:

correct if your on xp its max usage is 4 gig.
on the boot up x amount of memory is taken away to load
certain aspects of the mother board , and what u have left
is what u have left. glad it helps.

ps so the memory works fine.

i have 3 old computers i use for work, all single core processors
1.6ghz - and 2 computers using 2.2 ghz. all run xp with 4 gig.
although my new pc thats still in its box will be on win 7 with
16 gig memory . my new gaming pc .

Just in a case if somebody has the same problem and needs more info - I will add this youtube video:

the only question I have left is - shall I remove that 1 ddram, leaving only 3gb of memory? will that ease the performance of the system (now occasionally my processor gets overloaded)?

if your processor is maxing out at 100% its not the memory
its the amount of software loading on the boot up.
when your on desk top goto the far left corner hit start / run
type in the box msconfig when the grey box loads hit the
startup tab. if you have alot of items in there it means there
auto running on boot up and 70% of stuff isnt needed
also i edit my services.msc in the run box as i use xp as well.
try hitting cntrl/alt/del at same time how many processors do
you have runing? i have 23 on the boot up to desk top.
the more processors running the more memory u use
the more strain on the processor u place, alot of this stuff
can be turned of or set to manual start. have a look

16 gig memory??? and what is the graphics card? 3gig of course, is it?

my new pc that is still in its box is a quad core
win 7
16 gig memory
graphics is a gtx 570 twin frozer 240 quid

back to your pc this is how a tweaked version of xp should look
try hitting cntrl/alt/del at same time how many processors do
you have runing? i have 23 on the boot up to desk top.


if you pm me a skype name i can tweak your xp to run alot
faster than it does. alot faster. but im going shopping and
will be back in about 5 hrs

if you are having speed issues with your old
pc and trust me t he pic u posted. your pc is old like the
one im on now, my work pc. but the offer stands, i can
tweak xp into the ground to get every last % of use out
of it rather than it being bogged down. i can do it if you
want or need it. there's no charge. ive done this for people
online only with xp for 7 yrs
