Need a suggestion for a domain name

So i was scrolling through the instagram account and saw an ad

I checked the username, and the website of that page

Assume the name as xyz
The domain name taken is xyz(dot)in

The domain name xyz(dot)com is available for very cheap

Shall i purchase this domain and put it up for flip or sale?
What do you think?

That's a nice find, you can do that should the domain be available and pitch it to the influencer too you never know. It's a good idea, love it. All the best.

Its not influencer, its a startup it seems..

Okay if it's a startup I'd suggest you pitch it to them at an affordable rate. Profit for you, more affordable online presence for them.

Weigh up if they are really a global business, or they want to show that they are based in india, if so they might not have any use for it.
 
If the startup really seemed promising, I would buy that domain name, create a simple landing containing my contact means, and just forget. They would contact me one day anyways.

Yes, sounds good to me! I can't see why not as it is cheap with an opportunity.
 
Make sure there is no registered trademark "XYZ". Because if there is a trademark sooner or later your investment might be lost.

I would check for copyrights/trademarks, and buy the domain if the test succeeded. And then perhaps contact the dot in domain owner, or simply put up a way to contact me so that if they get interested (or if someone else does), then they would get in touch.

Certainly makes sense, kinda rental business... So i guess they'll stick to india? But .com is a tld so maybe they'd prefer it one day?.
 
Check whether it is also taken in other extensions. I am not sure why they opted for .in even though .com is available. If you could not find any other end-user of that name, I feel it would be difficult to convince Indian startups to purchase domain names for a higher price. However, you can try to hand reg it if the name sounds good and wait for an offer.
 
How can you see which names are taken, im interested in making some cool ones lol.
 
Your chances of getting them to buy it from you are slim.
You have to weigh that versus what time and money you will waste if they don't buy it.
If you can afford to lose the time and money you invest then it's a no-brainer and you can try it.
If you manage to make the sale then your are up by a few bucks.
