Hey,


I am looking to build a new website thats a directory where ppl sign up and write info about themselves. Then we drive traffic to their profiles. Email me for more details.


But basically I want my site to look like tumblr, you can also see twitter to see what I want.


I need a cool design all throughout the site but for the homepage, I know EXACTLY what I want (see tumblrs homepage) I want a big pretty clean picture and as little text as possible. I will email you exactly what I want.


And when people refresh the page I want the picture to change...and I dont want it to lag.


Most important thing for this site is for it to be SUPER FAST. Even with the big picture on the homepage. Design is important but the programming has to be good as there is a big backend. I will give you access to an old site I had built so you can see exactly what I mean. I can pay $1,500 and need this done by August 7th. If you can do it for less or faster let me know.

What's your reasoning behind this?

Do you have an extensive history with PHP, RoR, Python, etc.?

I'm not interested in this project, as the budget isn't high enough. But what makes you think that someone shouldn't spend $1,500 on, essentially, a social networking site?

The fact that he needs it rushed is even more of a reason to charge more. That means that's time you'll be taking away from your other clients. With all the testing that will be required, it's simply not worth it doing this project for $1,500 unless you're in a country that doesn't take as much to live nicely in.

I'll give you this: If it's going to be built on an already established platform (i.e. WP, Drupal, Joomla) then the price tag might be right.

But if he's wanting a custom solution such as a CI framework site or custom RoR coding, then it should cost far more. As to do something successful from scratch takes MONTHS.

I also thing the budget is excessively low. I mean full back end, front end, and solid graphics with load time optimization all in 10 days... I mean a project like that could probably go for 5-10K easy. Naturally I'd have to see the specifics, but I'm just kind of doubtful you'll find someone that skilled at that price. By all means @OP I wish you the best of luck, if you find someone solid feel free to pass their name along to me when your project is completed. :)

Not everybody can afford 5 to 10 k ie me...there r ppl out there looking to work ..$1500 to me is alot of money...if it's not to u...don't submit for the project...I know if I could make 1500 in 10 days I'd freaking love it...that's 4k a month...I've had to save up just to pay that...if I could pay more I would..so asking ppl to stop submitting for my project is bs....and I absolutely appreciate each and every person that's shown interest in this.....if ur a baller why would u bother w this forum.

You're completely missing the point of our posts.

The_demon and I weren't sullying the purpose of this thread. We were merely stating, to the person that said $1,500 was too much, that services like this do indeed cost quite a bit of money.

$1,500 for some people is great. I still take the occasional $1,500 client for things like small business sites with four pages.

I appreciate your courtesy and consideration for the OP, and I am a strong believer that everyone has a right to their own opinion, however, I find some flaws with your post. How can one even begin to estimate the required amount of work that is necessary to complete the project based upon the minor details provided by the authors initial message? I feel as if you're getting the wrong idea in general, as it seems to me that the OP is giving us his budget for set project, not asking if it's correct amount of money to be paying for the services they require.

I realize that it's hard for most beginners to understand this, but hourly wages, time and money vary when it comes to online service providers. There is quality, and there is crap, the choice boils down to the amount of money the consumer is willing to invest. I think that if you were to unleash your brain from the idea of manual slave labor, and focus more on the quality and what it will take to deliver set quality that the consumer requires, you can be much more successful and people will respect your professionalism. For example, if someone has $200, they'll accept the lower quality work delivered in exchange for set budget, because it is low. Today, we are used to an inefficient market, where quality and efficiency goes against the rules of business. I highly disagree with this mindset, because it gives off the idea that everything has to be cheap.

This project can be easily done for 500$ no need to waste 1500$ if u have extra money and want to help sponsor me just pm me!

He's essentially developing a social network. Projects like this go for 10k or even more.

Yeah he can hire someone to do it for $500 or less, but he'll most likely end up with a junk..
 
My goodness, simple...some ppl think this isn't enough...easy dont submit to it. Some programmers think they should get paid 10k to build a website ...Id say that's great...keep taking those projects, you don't want 1500 don't submit. It's NOBODIES right ..to stop someone who wants or needs the money.. to make $1,500 (which is a lot of $ to alot of people period) from taking a job. Not enough money for you ...don't submit the project. You poor programmers act like this is child labor abuse..my goodness...ur getting paid 1500 to build a website...if you cant build it for that...then don't submit ...One things for sure, not posting any more jobs ( more pay or not ) on here

I'm no designer, but if you need a backend developed, let me know. I'm leaving for vacation on the 8th, so I'll be able to get it done for you by the 7th.
