Wordfence is really good, we have a lot of clients that use that without any issues.

This is a pleague. We have been dealing a lot with these type of website viruses.
Most of what has been mentionned is actually true.
We recommand to start clean and even avoid a dump of the SQL database, but instead using the XML exporting feature built in wordpress, which would exclude many tables (users, passwords, members, comments)
Then, using a security plugin is warmly recommanded

You ask your hosting provider to delete your VPS and ask him to create a new server in some other fresh node. This will be a permanent solution for spam complaints. Before doing so take a backup of your server so that your website content will be safe.
