probably with www is better because most regular surfers always put www infront when they type a domain. Its like if it doesn't contain www infront it isn't a web address according to them
The 'www' is irrelevant from the majority of perspectives. It only matters that you adopt a single approach for link-building, so you don't lose juice to what the SE's can see as a different page.
