My SEO experience with blog networks

You need to know which links are working.. Diversify little bit to mask those and that is it.

Actually what I have seen is, you need to be ahead in SEO game. You need to do something different. Make backlinks in a different way.

You won't see any improvement...
These people telling you link diversity = the google fix are full of it unfortunately, as much as I would like to believe it.

Believe what you want to believe. Just because you are seeing a website ranking right now, doesn't mean they will be as their links get analyzed. Links don't get analyzed in real time, which is why you are seeing rolling reports of WMT messages and crazy shifts in rankings.

Clearly you misunderstood my post. Link diversity is more than just the type of backlinks that you are trying to build. It's more about how you are building those links. Are you building the links to the homepage only? Using one keyword? All of which are ********? That's what I'm mostly referring to.

There is no doubt that Google's proactively doing link-analysis, and taking action based on that. You can see that based on the sheer volume of out cries on this website and others. In order to be successful in today's SEO market, you've gotta put on your Google engineer cap and think about how/what they can analyze successfully. At the very basics, things like anchor text diversity & backlinked URLs analysis aren't hard to implement into the algorithm.

In regards to the types of backlinks you are building, that's more of a "security" precaution and long-term SEO strategy. Depending on one type of linkbuilding effort, like BMR or ALN, is silly. All it takes is Google to deindex the entire service, and you are left with no real backlinks and your website plummets into the abyss. Just as we've seen with a TON of websites. That's why you build in link building diversification, not because its not working "today".

I think de-indexing of BMR or ALN encourages people to spam more using xR and forum profiles. Google can not de-index all forums, so the doors are open! And I really do not think it is good move by Google. As for me good articles with links are much better than those tons of spammy profiles made by xR.

That's a pretty immature thought.

Let me advice you, that it's very easy to filter out xR Profile Links with an algorithm, who can do a lot of programmers, let alone big G.

Google just wants everyone to do a better job of blackhatting :)

The best thing you did. Yes i completely agree with you these networks will not survive more then 6 months as google started manually reviewing them, No matter what they are going to do but G will not leave them. It's better to build a completely private network

My gosh you are a slow learner, blog networks just went under and you think private blog networks are safe?

Even it is it is the same method and system, but hidden, Google will never figure it out, HUH?

A few months ago, I told the owner of ALN exactly what to do to avoid being penalized in the near future, but they did not listen to me because that was the way they wanted to continue their business.

Wow this sounds almost as good as your amazingly original 301 direct method that has been holding strong for months with no results what so ever. Care to enlighten us?

Funny how the only good post in this thread was completely ignored.

How is that the only good post. He has no idea what to do, he said so... you like that, here's another gem for you... why bother breathing we are all going to die eventually anyway.

This is 180 degrees opposite of what I'm seeing is working right now.

Poorly constructed sites with massive amounts of spam links (usually only of the blog network variety), and authority sites are all that are ranking.
Watched a fully white hat competitor in a niche, with hugely diverse profiles, go from #1 to page 10...

People are talking about this update far less than the updates from Last April, but this update is undoubtedly bigger and worse for SEOers...
I truly cannot wrap my head around what is still working. Some of my sites were hit, many were not. Link variety appears to be about as relevant as... sunscreen on a glacier.

This is not completely true. Almost sites have diverse links and only one really got hit... The hit only lasted for about 12 hours and I have almost all of my rankings back.

My sites have only moved up, I am sure many more people have the same to report.

Yup. the reason why this is so confusing is because Google knows that this is the best way to get people who are true SEOs to question their methods.

This is total bullshit. The reason why some spam sites go up and others down, why some sites with diverse links go up and some go down, why some sites with spam links go up and some go down is because Google is full of shit. Every once and a while they shake things up to fuck with people and knock them off their game. Ignore this shit and keep building. Get as many links from as many different places as possible.:eek::eek:

Spend your cash on content and learn how to make it go viral. Skip MNS, go for authority sites. Do not underestimate the power of social signals. Let things take it's time. Work hard on onpage-optimization and make sure you have a strong technical platform with good information architecture practices.

Go back to the fundamentals, choose the right url structure. Silo your website. Learn when you need to pay for premium content.
Learn how to market with social media, how to automate it to get more ROI for your time. Learn how to develop and and when to email to your list. Learn how to build trust through links. Learn how to audit your content regularly and to
keep your website lean, mean, and up to date.

Time to sleep. Cya guys :)

My sites have only moved up, I am sure many more people have the same to report.

None of the major players in a host of pharma niches I watch have moved up, almost all are off the map.

I suppose my sites that are in medium comp keywords have all survived, but what's your point?

I don't see why you think I want to believe the above, but let me elaborate. One of my major sites had a link diversity (anchor text, link type diversity, etc) that was the largest in the industry. The only thing the site lacked, was a lot of highly legit backlinks from themed sites (ie, creating a ton of high PR domains on the subject to link to my site from, which is the only way to get such links in this industry).

It was hit, and used blog networks. It wasn't even hit with an "unnatural backlinks penalty", but again, I see no real way for ANY n00b to actually get into SEO with even medium success right now.

You need to build and design your own tools to do specific link types and build up diversity, as well as build huge content specific networks to support your sites.

Link diversity, velocity blahblah, is all well and good, but the way people generally use these words hasn't been important for several years... and it still isn't.
However, other sites that were hit? A lot had spent small fortunes on permanent homepage posts (do the math on buying 10,000 homepage perm posts... some on PR5-PR6 sites, yeah)
This site is gone, and I mean very gone.

This isn't based upon content either, the sites that took these spots are very thin, and exactly the opposite of what customers want to find when they type in these keywords.

Now, I haven't pushed the site hard to see if the rankings returned yet, because of other reasons I cannot control yet and outweigh SEO as far as monetizing the site, but I'm aiming for a totally different method here going forward than anything other people are doing... because i have hints it's working like nothing else and will into the future for awhile.

The question is, what kind of links are you building? Because nothing free is functioning any longer in high comp keywords (with the exception of one off tools of course).

I think all that stuff will help but I think any site can get kicked in the balls if you're not Amazon, Wallmart and Wikipedia. G is full of shit and just shake things up without telling you why, they want us all chasing the dragon. They say it's for user experience but really it's about advertising money and shareholders. Lesson for me is listen to what everyone says about IM, diversify your earnings cuz G can pull the rug out from under you because one of their engineers think they found a genius tweak to the algo and wants to suck off Cutts and Co.

He was thinking on a little deeper level than you are right now...LMAO

That's it? And You're bitching and moaning and groaning? What for? LOL

Google doesn't give a RAT'S ASS about you or me or anyone else in this forum. If you think they are doing this to "fuck with people" we need to meet in person because I've got a lot of land in Florida to sell you! :D

I think people need to do a couple different things right now (this is NOT directed at you, Kegnum, just in general. I was just messing with you above)...

1) Watch and Learn.
Monitor the serps for NUMEROUS different keywords/subjects, especially ones where you have NO DOG in the fight so you are not influenced in any way. I can almost guarantee you that you're going to see one method work in one sector and something totally different in another. I've seen at least 20 different people in this forum say something different in regards to what is working and what isn't. Stop following. Do your OWN research and you might just find that sweet spot you're looking for.

2) Experiment on your own
Throw up X amount of sites and do different shit on each one. From straight and narrow to WHAM, BAM, HERE'S A SHITLOAD OF SPAM BITCH - and everything in between.

3) Be Patient
If Google is LITERALLY taking food off your table, you better get a different job ASAP. Relying solely on income from Organic Serps with NO other backup or plenty of savings in place, well...that's just insane IMO. Anyone who has been in this game longer than a year or two can tell you that there are ZERO guarantees. This is NOT the first time I've seen plenty of people wiped out in one fell swoop. It's happened MANY times before and will keep happening. You have to be patient to succeed long term in this biz.

Interesting...Makes me think they are starting to use separate algo based on the competitiveness of the keyword.

When you say nothing free is functioning...You mean a free "link" (as in a web 2.0, a blog comment, etc.)?

Unless you monitor the situation for 1-3 months and take the only surviving sites out and check their links, this is a waste of time. (I've done this, and saw no discernable pattern that you could launch from actually, just a lot of very targetted sites linking into the few surviving "winners")

I would advise investing at least 1 month into trying different methods, building automation tools, and doing other ... things.

With a few exceptions (there are some exceptions to this of course), your general SEnuke tools etc aren't working.

I have my doubts web 2.0s are going to work either again, but I'm going to try pushing out 5k tier 1s + 50k tier 2s + a few million on top of that to see what happens in the next week or two. They were falling off in functionality starting in Jan though...

I'm not expecting anything good on this end, despite me having 150+ domains automated now.

Hmmm...That's even more intersting. And you said most of your med. comp keywords are pretty much OK? Wow....

Best of luck to you. Would be highly interested in hearing how that experiment above works out. Thanks for all the other info.

Take it easy,
Con
