My SEO experience with blog networks

Jericho, your comment makes no sense, google has always been about advertising

aln is actually about 10x better than build my rank ever was, but still, it has its weaknesses, namely with the blogs looking bad

What you need is a nice private network like serp gold or leapfrog that does a good job disguising their blogs to look like regular blogs. Any network that anyone can pay to play will ultimately go down in a hail of fire cause Google will sign right up and deindex everything they find, and any coop network where the blogs look like splogs will end up getting deindexed when google does a manual review on a sites link profile.

And yes, I agree seo hosting is the biggest footprint of them all

I am no expert at all, and have only just got into this game. However, I think a lot of you guys are underestimating the number of sites that will get manually reviewed and perhaps haven't looked at that process in enough detail.. there is a lot of it. Read through the rating guidelines that are available on the net.

Pay attention to the page quality rating carefully..

You'll see that most importantly

1) The main content needs to be clearly identifiable.. i.e. CTR themes aren't the best idea.

2) Supplementary content needs to be identifiable and plentiful - nice, helpful menus.

3) There needs to be clear indication of who owns the site and adequate contact information. - Not just a form. An email address min + physical location/phone number (they're not gonna check but it gives validity to the site.) If you don't have this you'll get a low rating and WILL be penalised.

As for links, I have no idea :D

So far only one of my personal sites has been hit. It went from position 1 to 54 yesterday.

One client site was hit, but the domain is only a year old. Another client site with a very old domain using the same link building methods (even has paid blog homepage links) is unaffected.

I haven't seen domain age come up in the discussion. Any opinions on that?

Domain age appears to have nothing really to do with it from all I've seen and heard. I know I've heard people say they've lost 10 year old domains and so on. It's all over the board as far as age goes. Non factor IMO.

Thanks for the feedback. Anyone else on this one?

OK, on my personal site that took a dive, I just did a major reverse engineering on the top two sites that replaced me. They are both obvious IM sites and are running Adsense...but then again so was I on the site I lost rankings on.

They DO have good link diversity both from various class c's and anchor text, but purely by luck on the anchor text. Some of their blog comments have anchors like "website" and "url". The vast majority of their anchor texts are exact keyword phrase match though.

:laser:Gwagle is frustrating me today, and yesterday, and the day before...

The only common factor with some of you that lost rankings - is that on the two sites that I've taken hits on - I used a Fiver gig for BMR for both of those sites about a month ago.

BMR = Major Drop for almost everybody it seems. That's definitely one of the only common denominators. There's not a lot else that makes sense right now. You're gonna have to test on your own like many of us are doing and see what sticks. Tough part is that there's no rhyme or reason to what is sticking and what isn't right now. Different results for different levels of keywords.

But that's life in SEO...Google is an addicting Bitch who we all want to leave but continuously come back to! :D

Already on it for about two weeks now, but nothing definite yet. I'll be sharing it as soon as I can pin it down and hope others do the same with their results.

I've done some considerable research the passed 2 weeks into these latest algo changes. The data that I have gathered so far leads me to suggest that one part of the algo change is on losing your backlinks. The websites that have shot up the rankings in the SERPs I've been monitoring seem to have aged backlinks and their backlinking profile has stayed at a consistent number without having many backlinks dropped. What's this mean? Get backlinks you know will stick.

Anchor diversity has been something Google seems to of emphasized more on the passed few months. Personaly I have been using around 90% generic anchors for the passed 6 months - 12 months now, long gone were the days of just blasting away at one keyword and then going to the next.

Google has already finished BMR and is already penalizing sites using ALN. I've said it countless times, don't use Public blog networks. Create your own private network.

But yeah, just my 2 cents.

After they've wiped out all public networks, private networks will be next. No idea how they're gonna do it but they will.

I haven't seen a major drop. I have one site where I only sent it BMR links and it is still at #1. I'm not going to send that site any other links just to see what happens but so far there has been no movement. That's the only site I did that with but overall these recent algorithm changes haven't effected my business/income/strategies.

You won't see any improvement...
These people telling you link diversity = the google fix are full of it unfortunately, as much as I would like to believe it.

I'd take C-blocks and root domains over Link diversity/variety(web 2.0s, wikis, forum posts etc.) anyday.
What about you?
Also, about the dropping value of web 2.0s since Jan, Perhaps it's happening because of the same 24 root domains(You have 24 templates right?) being used.

Same with me with HPS. Ranked a website with a shit easy keyword only with HPS. It's rankings remained constant for a while after it was 80% deindexed, but then started dropping 1 position every couple of days. Mixed in some linkpushing and web 2.0s and it's back up.

He was thinking on a little deeper level than you are right now...LMAO

That's it? And You're bitching and moaning and groaning? What for? LOL

Google doesn't give a RAT'S ASS about you or me or anyone else in this forum. If you think they are doing this to "fuck with people" we need to meet in person because I've got a lot of land in Florida to sell you! :D

I think people need to do a couple different things right now (this is NOT directed at you, Kegnum, just in general. I was just messing with you above)...

1) Watch and Learn.
Monitor the serps for NUMEROUS different keywords/subjects, especially ones where you have NO DOG in the fight so you are not influenced in any way. I can almost guarantee you that you're going to see one method work in one sector and something totally different in another. I've seen at least 20 different people in this forum say something different in regards to what is working and what isn't. Stop following. Do your OWN research and you might just find that sweet spot you're looking for.

2) Experiment on your own
Throw up X amount of sites and do different shit on each one. From straight and narrow to WHAM, BAM, HERE'S A SHITLOAD OF SPAM BITCH - and everything in between.

3) Be Patient
If Google is LITERALLY taking food off your table, you better get a different job ASAP. Relying solely on income from Organic Serps with NO other backup or plenty of savings in place, well...that's just insane IMO. Anyone who has been in this game longer than a year or two can tell you that there are ZERO guarantees. This is NOT the first time I've seen plenty of people wiped out in one fell swoop. It's happened MANY times before and will keep happening. You have to be patient to succeed long term in this biz.

If google didnt give a rats ass about what people were doing in this forum, they wouldnt be taking down sites like ALN and BMR

You think G only found out about BMR and ALN through forums?

Well, for those who are suggesting to build owned network. How on earth is anyone supposed to create a network like ALN? Ip diversity/high PR etc. The cost would be outrageous. If you dont sell links off your network, there is no way that you can offset the cost of building such private networks, ranking for a few keywords.

Here's my take on it...

What happens:

1) Google is good at finding footprints of people gaming the system.
2) They change when 1000s of people start using these networks or pyramids (insert other special-sauce-of-the-day trick here)

How to recover:

1) They just changed the recipe: Learn how to master data harvesting and analyzing what 'works now'. The recipe is always going to be a variation of what type of links, ratios of anchor text, raw links, length/type of content and where it is shared.

2) Go look at your industry rankings...scrape backlinks (then analyze), discover the social sharing signals (I'm still looking for good tools on this).

3) Replicate, Match & Beat...

Keep on trucking.
http://putdownthedonut.com/images/uploads/keep-on-truckin-button(1).jpg

If you do fall for the latest "blast with this" or "blast with that"...do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT...rely on one method or source. Diversity has been brought up...but don't just guess on diversification...go take a look at what the other top ranking sites are doing.

Sure Yahoo Site Explorer is down, big deal....SEO Spyglass and Majestic still let you peep some decent data...and I know there are others out there.

Holler if any of you know some good social signal data harvesting tools. This is the only piece I'm still digging for now.

Interesting...Probably just a matter of time but maybe not. Keep us updated on that one, please.

Thank you for the input. :)

Surely, the blog network game will change! But,way far from being over.
People will adapt and move on.Never forget as a black/grey hatter's basic strategy is hit and run. So,no point in whining.I do not think many people ll disagree that ranking had been way too easy for last 6-8 months.
