Hey guys. I've had some luck with Google Knowledge Panels (it did a lot for some of my projects) and decided to write a summary of what I think works best. Hope you enjoy!
Hopefully I'll help you learn how to score a panel of your own!
It's important to audit your existing profiles and bios to make sure they're consistent and accurate. This can include updating old bios and adding links to your profiles on sites like Crunchbase. By building a consistent presence across the web, you can improve your chances of ranking high in search engines.
The Finish Line
To figure out how long it'll take to get a knowledge panel after building your profiles, check your confidence score and monitor the Knowledge Graph API.
If you show up in the Knowledge Graph API and your confidence score is growing, you're moving closer to getting a knowledge panel. You can also use tools like Knowledge Graph Sensor to track changes to the Knowledge Graph.
If your profile disappears temporarily, don't panic and keep building your profile on your website and other platforms. This will help make sure the right information is shown to people who come across your profiles.
I hope you enjoyed my short tutorial! Good luck!
What is it?
- A Knowledge Panel is a super cool feature on search engines that shows off info about a person, brand, or entity.
- It can help boost your brand by giving more exposure to your logo and social channels, and it can also help reduce the visibility of competitors' ads.
- Search engines use unstructured data from across the web to build their knowledge about a person, brand, or entity, but you can help them out by providing structured data.
Hopefully I'll help you learn how to score a panel of your own!
Do the Research
- To see if Google knows anything about a person, brand, or entity, you can use SERP analysis and the Knowledge Graph Explorer.
- First, do a Google search to see what info pops up about the person, brand, or entity. This will give you an idea of how well-known the entity is and whether there are other people or brands with the same name.
- You can also check for social channels, videos, and other SERP features related to the entity.
- If Google doesn't have much info about the entity, it might be a good idea to build up your profiles before trying to influence a Knowledge Panel. There are lots of ways to do this, like through marketing efforts.
- If you want to see how confident Google is in an entity, you can use tools like Google's Knowledge API Explorer and Kalicube's confidence score tool. This score can show you how close you are to other entities competing for the same search query.
Wikidata
To boost your profile on search engines, Wikidata.org can be really helpful.- Before you make any edits or contributions to the Wikidata page, make sure you have the knowledge and expertise to do so accurately. And don't forget to provide sources for any information you add to the page.
- Wikidata is a widely used and reputable source, so building a strong profile there can help you rank higher in Google's knowledge panels. You can use tools that measure confidence score to see how you compare to competitors and make changes as needed.
- To create or edit entries on Wikidata, you should first understand the notability criteria to make sure the person or company is relevant enough to be listed. And if you want to be a real editor, find a niche you know a lot about and help out by editing other entries.
- It's important not to try and edit too many things at once, because experienced editors or bots may revert your changes.
- Engage in discussions, build your profile and trust, and avoid having your changes reverted.
- When you're creating or editing entries on Wikidata, you can build two types of data: statements (like name, age, occupation, and inception) and identifiers (like social profiles across the web).
- Make sure to connect your Wikidata profile to the structured data on your website, including all the identifiers you can. There's a big list of profiles available, including Quora, Crunchbase, YouTube, IMDB, and Spotify. You can use a Google Sheets tracker to keep track of your progress.
Optimization
Focus on building a consistent presence across all platforms. This means:- using strong, accurate descriptions on your social channels,
- linking to your website and other profiles,
- keeping your information up to date.
