Come on bro don't be like that, please share!!! I am DYING to hear what a 1 post/new account at BHW has to say about Penguin 3.

Don't let the children get you down man, please drop this wisdom on us!!! :)

Lets talk about our feelings bro...

OP, I just read your thread and in halfway distracted on some other stuff and when came back and refreshed the page it's gone. Why would you edit your post and come to the conclusion after a single reply? That's what looks childish.

I wanted to quote a line that talks about Google identifying the link(pattern) between Tier 2 and Tier 3 to the Tier 1 and penalizing the money site.

I don't know that this cry baby called the OP wrote, but reading the last reply, I know Matt Cutts last year said they where working on going more upstream to detect black hat linking patterns.

I also suspect the disavow files played a major role in this update. Thank you webmasters who collaborated with Google by giving them all this precious info!!! Here in Holland we call them NSB'ers. In WW II they were a Dutch sister party of the NSDAP and collaborated with the Germans by handing over the Jews for deportation.

It basically said that if your Tier link, you're f**ked and apparently no dutch people do this kind of linking. It said some other things but it didn't make sense. Site one had a link network and site 2 didn't. Whoop di doo. Also said something about feels, but I ignored that bit.

Oh, and google collects data from people that disavow links.

I guess OP mistyped the title as feelings instead of findings but its a pretty lengthy post with so many correlations.

Yeah thats what I meant. If we can easily follow through a page that's spammed by GSA and after following upto 2-3 tiers, we can find the money site. Its as simple as a flick of switch to integrate it into an algorithm and I believe thats what Matt did in this update. If a site is penalized, it would show up in the WMT but not many members reported it as the case. They simply complain about losing the rankings, which basically means Google devalued those links and the link juices it passes on to the upper tiers. Without the link juice, the site will lose authority hence the rankings too.

Would this include expired domains that has a linking profile already? That can look like tier linking. How can the algo detect what is built as a tier and what is a natural follow through?

Expired domains never have spammy links and if it does, we wouldn't buy it in the first place. SB Blog comment links and xrumer profiles were targeted in the initial penguin update. This update must target all the platforms that GSA can build links on. Most of those platforms were the breeding land for the spam. Any link found on those platforms will be followed through and with the help of panda algorithm working along in the background filtering those middle tiers with spun content, this latest algorithm will easily ignore and reject all those link juices.

Ah, I see where you're coming from now. Yeah, cool.

Yes, that is kind of my conclusion. Google downgraded spammy domains, so even if a link is somewhere else on the domain the effects for you're money site are less. Probably google has new metrics to follow the spam by their backlinks (probably tier 2-3 etc or via specific methodes where they know spammers are). Also I think google uses the disavow tool to downgrade sites with a lot of links disavowed.

How can you prevent this? Simply, don't use sites anymore where a lot of SEO guys have acces to. In the future Google will probably downgrade these as well for spammy reasons or SEOers who are screwing things up and disavow this link (even if it is a good link). You're site is not getting a 'penalty', but the link juice is not as high as it was before.

If google has finally implemented an algo that will simply devalue spam links and not allow them to pass link juice then technically you should be able to resurrect one of these penguin hit sites with new, high quality links, no?

I think that would actually be a fair move on google's part. Devalue the spam but allow people to recover their sites by using quality linking strategies. It would be interesting to know if someone can recover some of their ranks by building new links or if they will have to wait until the next refresh again.

Maybe there is a treshold, if you're link is only on a couple of sites that went hit severe, the link juice is just somewhat less. If you're on a lot of these (the GSA spam boys which probably hit bad) then a refresh is needed after cleaning up.

My position took a slight hit from #2 to #4 on main KW. I will clean up the links previous mentioned and replace each link by a new one in the course of this month. If I regain, the drop from #2 to #4 is cause of a loss of link juice from sites that are quite often used by SEO people. It's a perfect test case I think to support or bust my view on P3.

Yeah that's how its going to work in the near future. At least that's what my findings are so far. Google simply can't release updates after updates and penalize innocent victim's sites due to an Neg SEO attack. Google Webmaster Forum is filled with hundred thousand if not thousands of local business owner's sites being penalized for no reason. They don't even know about BH SEO. As you may know, the penalty has an expiry date like 15/30 days or 1/3/6/9/12 months. When the penalty expires, your site will be eligible to rank again on top of the SERPs if you've built some quality links in the mean time. Unfortunately, you've to wait until the next refresh in order to see some movements but I hope they'll fix it soon.

What what, tier linking doesn't work anymore? Hmm, none of my sites lost any position.

But maybe some people under tier linking understand pointing 24k Xrumer links to your money site and then point 2kk links to those 24k...

Looks like you misinterpreted the message. Its not the Tier linking but what platforms you use on your 2nd and 3rd tiers. Spammy Tier 2 and Tier 3 will ring the bell for Tier 1 and your money site as well.

Exactly, that are my findings also. Plus the data from the disavow tool is used. Google can determine when a site is mostly spam or not from this data. A lot of SEOers disavow these links when a strategy didn't work well for them. So avoiding much used sites by SEO guys is key in this update i think if the optimalization from anchors is alright. Key in this view is the spammier tier links to such a domain and disavow data. Maybe a couple other smaller metrics also, but these we never gonna find.

The only question remains, is a site that dropped 2 places by P3 a loss of link juice and could the deleting of these links and placing new ones by this info regain rankings. Obviously a big hit (couple pages or more) needs a refresh.

I will find out over the course of next month.
