My Offline Client Prospecting Tool... (low tech)

Thanks for the heads up on that report. Just finished reading it. Great stuff to use for when dealing with clients with no web presence and how to begin the process.

So the difference in initially getting clients with your method is that instead of buying a list (as mentioned in that report) you just turn to the local newspaper and look for businesses that have ads running and then contact them correct?

Do you focus on any particular business type such as services(i.e. attorneys, dentists, surgeons, auto body, etc) or do you go after ones that sell products as well like a bakery, florist, etc?

Once you locate the business ads do you first check to see if they have a website already (site optimized, ranking for any terms, etc.) or not before calling them? And if they don't have a website then I would think the services you can pitch is the initial website setup, optimization, google maps, etc. But what about those that do have a website already....is it just SEO to get them on 1st page of google and charge a monthly fee for that? What if they are already on the first page of Google what esle can we offer them to lock them in?

You will need pretty much a separate seo/marketing plan for each business your taget, one for lawyer, one for dentist one for restarants, florists, massage parlors , whatever, each business requires a different plan and startegy and of course some are more competitive then others, more competitive = more money

Well, newspapers are just one way I prospect for clients, one that I hadn't seen talked about here before, so I thought I would mention it.

Yes, for a newspaper lead, I definitely check to see if they have a website first. If not, I can talk the whole package... web design, SEO, hosting, etc.

If they do have one: SEO, video creation... and yes, always monthly fee!

I don't spend too much time doing research, I find that can stand in your way of actually DOING anything to get new business. We trick ourselves into thinking we're working and preparing when all we're doing is wasting more time! Most times a prospect STILL isn't interested right off the bat, for one reason or another, and all of that "preparation" time was for nothing! So I spend only 5 minutes or less on checking them out...

I will go after just about every service niche. If you limit yourself to just "lawyers" or "contractors", you'll never find enough leads in the newspaper to keep yourself busy. I say hit everybody, until you naturally settle into a niche that you click with.
