A few months ago, I didn't know anything about blogging and still don't but I am a big believer that the best way to learn is to get your feet wet.

Despite the lack of knowledge about blogging I manage to drove 40k+ readers to my blog, get 400 subscribers and earn $2k with only 10 posts.

Screenshot of my best performing affiliate: PROOF That’s revenue, but profit is pretty similar as my only cost is hosting and my time.

At the beginning 99% of my traffic came from the following three sources:

  • 2 separate Reddit posts that hit the #1 spot on /r/entrepreneur 1, 2

  • Writing long form answers on Quora. I went from 0 followers and less than 1k views to more than 300k views and almost 500 followers in 4 months).
Answers are shortened version of my main blog post, with a read more link to my blog.

  • Google (I don't know how I made it but Google is now the main source of traffic to my blog). Probably from Reddit because I noticed that links from text post with lots of upvotes are becoming ******** links.
I didn't do any guest posting, run any ads, build backlinks or even SEO optimize my page. Like I said, I have no clue what I'm doing and I’m not a good writer (btw, English is my third language), so I try and make my posts as useful as possible. People don’t care about grammar and bad spelling if they get some value out of the post. Fact is, one of my readers did Proofreading of my articles. He sent an email something like this: Your article provides tremendous value, and to show my appreciation, I have attached the blog article with the corrections I made!

Promoting on Reddit

Determine target audience. (Subreddit)

Be active in a community.

Only post your best content.

Submit a text post, don't spam with direct links to your blog. I also like Reddit and I like to read on Reddit, not on someone's blog.

Share a useful case study or another item of great value.

Include additional value via links to your own blog.

Result: Google juice and other Redditors shared my content in other relevant subreddits.

Promoting on Quora

Choose relevant topics with lots of followers.

Inside a particularly popular topic, you want to choose questions that also have lots of followers. It doesn’t matter how many other people have answered the question.

Capture attention with first lines of your answer.

Write 200-250 words answers and include pictures.

Provide unique value.

Call to action. Include a link with more rad to your blog.

Things I learned: * Copy what every other successful blogger is doing, and being unique * Focus on getting good content, there's no substitute for real value * Put it in the right place. Ask, "Who is my target audience?"
* Be genuine and human. People respond to people

Thank you for your sharing. May I know what Affiliate network you are using here?

Great insights on how to generate traffic... But how are you monetizing? Went through your blog and couldn't see any affiliates that you are promoting

how do you monetize the blog? With text ads inside the content or sidebar ads or popup, something else...?

Just want to point something out to everyone commenting. Not trying to be a downer but everyone reading should be skeptical of this post. After all, OP is a newbie and it's not that difficult to slap together a realistic looking earning chart in 20 minutes using Photoshop. What makes me even most concerned about this post is that OP included his website link, not something you should do or see on BHW necessarily. Stay safe everyone.

If in fact this post is legit, great job OP and I wish you the best of luck in furthering your numbers. :)

The fact that he says he has no idea what he's doing is trowing me off, it seems good luck is on your side op

prob just made the thread as a means to site link maybe, time will tell

I doubt on reddit you can get so many votes, its the most difficult network - however as stated earlier luck is on OP side.

Once you send a couple upvotes to your post, Reddit users will start to upvote it like sheep :D
This is a very true concept! Making 10 fake accounts and boosting your own posts will make them skyrocket to the top, even if the content is complete trash.

if you can get in on reddit usually a sub reddit
the traffic is so huge unreal.

I was doing a adult sex toy on reddit the traffic was so huge my sheard host told me off lol .

account got ban eventually but I enjoyed 2 weeks of huge traffic.

the only thing the reddit ppl are very tight and stuck up .....

There paying clicks very cheap but the rules are so tight.....

Reddit can help for sure IF people like your post. Getting in top of any active subreddit/ FP do mean you will get massive amounts of traffic. However this won't happen every time and in fact like some people say Reddit is very very hard to get (self promo) to the top.

Good method) +1 For Quora) I used to generate 80K monthly traffic to my website with using only Quora, then I've just sold my website) And, I have to say that even after 6 months website`s traffic keeps increasing) I am Using the same tactic for my new viral website)
