My MILLION DOLLAR IDEA! What do you think?

Hello everyone.
Sorry for the flashy title, that's just for your attention. But still:

I'm going to start an ecommerce website selling makeup/cosmetics that I buy wholesale (brands like loreal, maybelline, maxfactor, rimmel, astor etc).I've done a price calculation and if I buy merchandise worth 2000 I can sell it with 6000 so I can 2x-3x my original investment (this is by selling at good, low prices)

I have many ideas on how to promote my website but I've been thinking all day how I could do something like AVON or Oriflame does. They are geniuses because they have millions of s a l e s m e n that do their absolute best because they "work for themselves"( yeah, right) .And there are just so many poor people that would do anything for a little extra c a s h in my country. I cant copy the exact model because if I s e l l through a website, people will have no reason to buy through representatives. BUT I think I just had my brilliant idea:
So here it is:

"Make m o n e y with mycosmeticswebsite . xx
For every client that registers with your code you receive 10% of ALL their orders in the next 12 MONTHS delivered to your b a n k a c c o u n t!

Tell all your friends
Become our partner! All you have to do is convince people to give us a try"

And then people would advertise my s h i t for me!
And for every order my profit is 50-100%, so giving them 10% is not a big deal. Especially if it means viral advertising and gaining thousands of people working for me for basicly nothing.


What do you think ? Will it work? Will it not? Why?

Yes, it is old, but I think it could work, especially since there is a precedent in the cosmetics industry.

One thing i can say, idea (almost any idea) isnt worth millions, not even thousands in most cases.

Bussiness you build using just idea can be worth millions, so you never know if you dont go for it

All joking aside what the op is describing is not a pyramid scheme, it's affiliate marketing,

Whats the difference between selling a physical product face to face for a commission, or selling a virtual or physical product virtually for a commission.

There is no difference what so ever.

Avon and Amway are MLM, Albanias pensions were a pyramid scheme.

The Op is not planning an MLM, he's planning a 10% commission for referral sales.

OP it is workable there are many ways to skin a cat and this could be very profitable if done properly.

Many people are tired of avon because the market is really saturated, there are more reps than people, its getting hard to make money.
Also there is much less work in getting someone to register for a website and then reaping profits, much less than doing what an avon rep does, go door to door and distribute catalogues and collect the money and worry about people not paying and etc.
Plus I dont want to be better, I only want a small share of the dough.

Yes this has been done for ages. There's actually a whole section in this forum for affiliate marketing. All the big players on the web are doing it so I suppose it's appealing to clients.

Actually, you know what? I was being overly critical.

Although it's not a new idea, that doesn't mean you can't make it work. Sometimes old ideas are the best.
And if you weren't aware that this was an existing sales and marketing technique, more power to you. It shows you are thinking.

Don't let anyone here discourage you. Just go for it. Execute it aggressively and properly and you can make a ton of money.

(funny how the first posts were pretty critical, I think this is social psychology at work. The crowd tends to follow what the rest is doing. Dont get offended, LOL)

Anyway, don't close the thread just yet. If anyone has a different opinion or idea, I'd be glad to listen, perhaps I haven't thought of it before.

Here is a twist on the idea, it's not a new idea but has been very successful

Your niche is perfect for it,

Cosmetic parties, you own the central ordering mechanism and website..

Dollybird signs up to host parties selling to all the girlies present, she makes her commission on sales which is a nice nights work, you shift lots of stock.

Start local and grow organically.

It's a bit more difficult as their are more moving parts but this has worked for many companies,

I think their is an opening for discount brand name cosmetics perfumes etc, most parties are branded if you can open out of the branded model I'm certain more people will go for it.
