The strategy is sound but you can't judge whether you will have a huge jump unless you know what your competition is... go ahead and do it, your domain will not be affected negatively.
If you have access to SB, you may want to hit them with that as well... if not, hit up a service here to do it for you... Paper-Boy has a very good service and his pricing is very good as well for that.
My only other blind suggestion is to make sure that the content on your site is solid and that your site is easy to navigate from page to page.

Better you scrape do-follow links and post there.I own SB, but I never had anny success with blogengine or wp nofollow links. Maybe i'm doing something wrong

Frankly, I like to have some no follow in my link structure, it looks more natural that way.

Good luck with your link building OP, i would love to see how your progress with this strategy.
I also right now in a work of building 30 autoblogs in 30 diferent domains to boost my main site.
So far i've build 8 autoblogs, 22 more to go.

That's the last thing you want Google to figure out.
If they figure out your structure they won't boost you but de-index you.
