So I've been lurking around on here for a couple of weeks now, made a couple of posts here and there. Anyway, thought it was about time I shared a nice tip, could be common knowledge, could not be so here goes.
From Feb this year I ventured into internet shopping, big market to play in and its been tough as hell. I'm all white hat, as its a legit business but there's still plenty I can share that may be useful to people working in the same domain, both white and black.
Anyway, my tip today concerns people's buying trends, more specifically, days of the week.
Over the past 8 months or so, we have shipped over 50k items, had around 1M visitors to our online store, plenty of data to preen through and look at trends.
I'm going to focus on the "day of the week" trend here, and some interesting facts and figures that I have found.
Originally, when I started, I expected the weekend days to be the most active, lots of people not at work, maybe bored, so internet "window" shopping right? Wrong!
The most profitable day of the week, by quite a margin has always been Monday. More specifically, Monday mornings. I can only imagine this is due to Monday morning blues, people getting to the office, a bit grumpy that the weekend is over, downing a few coffees and of the frame of mind "well, I've got the whole week to finish this weeks task"
Maximise your Monday's!! Launching a new ad campaign, do it Sunday night ready for Monday. Special offers? Do it for Monday. In fact any new campaign, promotion or similar, do it for a Monday.
The least profitable day of the week has always been Friday. Our Friday's see typically 30% LESS visits, than Monday, which in turn of course means 30% less sales and profit on that day. Friday evenings in particular are dire. I imagine this is due to people wishing they hadn't wasted Monday morning on the internet and are trying to get the weeks tasks finished, then going for the obligatory Friday night beer with pals.
Weekend, usually sits somewhere between Monday and Friday. Saturday is weaker of the 2 days, again probably due to people out for the day, and at night, Sunday fares better.
Tuesday, Weds and Thurs drop off from Mondays peak throughout the week and settle at Fridays low.
Weather, has an impact too, especially at weekends and holidays where many are off work. If its sunny and nice out, expect lower traffic that day, if its raining, snow or miserable out, expect an increase.
Sport can also affect traffic and sales, especially at the weekend when most sporting activities happen. If there is a big match, F1 race, or any other popular sport on at the weekend, expect visits to drop off during that time, sometimes up to 10%.
So there we go, hopefully its useful to someone, you can maximise your earning potential's slightly if you play along to these trends.
Next time I'll post something with a little more meat
