My first journey with MNS and AdSense

Don't depend completely on search engines. Try to get visitors from social media.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't have experience with social media, it will be awesome if I manage to get some social traffic to my site, but for that I think I'll need more content consisting of informative and engaging articles. My other concern is that my niche is not very broad.

I created google+, facebook and twitter profiles for my site, but they are still empty.

I wish you success with your journey. Thank you . Please update your post daily and share your statistic in here

Thanks, will try.

you planned well. wish you best of luck in your journey.
Thanks man.

What I have done:

  • Posted 1 article and scheduled one for the next week.
  • I was searching for some rank tracking service with free plan, tested a few, but didn't like them. Still looking.

Some thouths:
It seems that Yahoo deindexed my site. Hope to see it indexed again soon.
Another good news is that yesterday I checked my keyword with KeywordPlanner and was surprised to see that the last few months the searches for my kw has gone up and now it reports 6000+ average monthly searches. I was excited and did some calculations.

I'll go the more pessimistic route and say that I achieve 1st page ranking, so I'll get around 4% of the monthly searches.
6000 searches/mo x 0.04 = 240 visitors/mo
240 visits x 0.05 (5%CTR) x $1(CPC*0.6) = ~$12/mo (if my calculations are right)

Now I just have to rank it. :)

Nice to see your thread, Mate!

Excellent journey thread dude. Will be following

Thanks guys. I'm trying to motivate myself every single day!

great journey! I like the idea on creating a "mini-authority" website. Good luck :)

What I have done:

  • Been lazy. Done nothing.

Some Thoughts:

I'm happy to see that my rankings in Bing and Yahoo are slowly going up. However I still can't see my site anywhere in google. Also some pages like about page, privacy policy page and some articles are still not indexed in google.

Considering what meln advised me here and reading similar recommendations several times, I'm planning to write 1 article that is not keyword targeted on every 2-3 keyword targeted articles.
Basically I'll search what people are asking in forums and write a 400-500 word article that answers this questions in detail. Without any keyword research and such, just short informative posts.
That is exactly what I need to more of, writing content that's not keyword driven.

Hi!

Basically You build a site with content (articles) that people search on search engines to drive traffic to your site and gain money through adsence?

DAY 40 - [20140925] & DAY 41 - [20140926]

TRAFFIC:
No traffic for this period.

What I have done:
Created one article that is not keyword targeted. Started with the idea for a very short article, but ended with a 637 word article. Scheduled it for posting.

Some thouths:
Today I checked and saw that all my pages are deindexed in yahoo and bing.
In google, 2 of my pages were deindexed. No idea what is the cause for bing/yahoo. As for google I hope the last google update is the reason and it will be temporary.

I'll be happy for some suggestions if someone has experienced similar deindexing.

That's all for this update.

great journey! I like the idea on creating a "mini-authority" website. Good luck

Thanks.

Yes, I think you got that right.

DAY 71 - [20141027]

Again I can't believe it's been 1 month since my last update. Been very busy as usual.
I haven't done much on this project except adding some articles. No backlinks yet.
Ordered some articles for $20.
Also I registered the site in Bing Webmaster Tools.

Here I'm posting my details:

TRAFFIC:
graph-daily-rpu-labels-bar-20141027.png

SERP:
The site starts ranking for most of the keywords at positions 140-190 in google and 50-150 in bing yahoo.
Will post ranking screenshot in my next update.

Total Articles: 9
Indexed: ALL indexed in google

TOTAL EXPENSES: $56

Hello bro could you tell me which rank checker tool or site are you using to check your search rankings for main keyword in google, bing?

DAY 74 - [20141030]

WHAT I HAVE DONE:

  • Posted one 770+ words article
  • Started writing 2 more articles.

TODO:

  • Tweak the onpage seo a little.
  • Change keyword density a little and see if I can inprove ranking.
  • Bold some keywords and do some internal linking.

CONTENT:
Total Articles: 10

TOTAL EXPENSES: $56

Revising the on page I noticed something interesting(at least for me). One of the articles I wrote is with keyword density 0.13%, yet it's ranking for the main keyword at around #150, and below 200 for 2 related keywords. Here's the screenshot.

serpos_20141031.jpg

I thought this is awesome opportunity for some on page testing, so I optimized the following: keyword density: 1.8%, article title begins with keyword, keyword in 1st paragraph, keyword bolded one time, keyword in last paragraph, added one image with keyword in title, alt and in file name. Curious to see what will be the ranking improvement.

DAY 120 - [20141216]

A lot of time has passed from my last update. It's been 120 days since my site is online and to be honest I was expecting to be a lot more easier. A lot of the keywords I was initially targeted got some serious competition. According to keywordrevealer some keywords got more than 15+ increase in difficulty since my last check.

Also my last experiment with optimizing the article didn't get me any positive serp movement. After 4 months, still getting the "enormous" traffic of 1-3 visitors per day.
All of this got me a little demotivated and left me thinking if it's worth the time. But I'll keep struggling and hope for success.

WHAT I HAVE DONE:
  • Added 5 more articles.
  • I was working on the internal linking structure, I've written a custom sidebar widget that helps me categorize the articles and does something similar to siloing.
  • Bolded some words in the articles, and done some interlinking between articles.
  • Created 5 WEB 2.0s with total of 7 articles across them, but haven't pointed them to my money site yet.
TODO:
  • Blast some tier 2 links to the web 2.0s.
  • Diversify my anchor text before I point those web 2.0 buffers to my money site.
  • Going beyond the MNS: Research some more keywords and add more articles.
CONTENT: 15 articles totaling 11,000+ words

TOTAL EXPENSES: somewhere around $70.

DAY 144 - [20150107]

A bit late, but Happy New Year, guys! Wishing big success in 2015 to all! Here's my first update for 2015.

WHAT I HAVE DONE:

  • Created another 5 WEB 2.0s with total of 5 articles across them, so I have total of 10 WEB 2.0 Buffers with unique hand written 400+ articles for my LSI, Partial Match and Exact Match Anchors.
  • Added 3 articles, totaling 2200+ words.

TODO:

  • Blast some tier 2 links to the web 2.0s.
  • Diversify my anchor text before I point those web 2.0 buffers to my money site. How I'll divirsify:
    - Create 1 PDF and share it across 10+ sites.
    - Create some Social Bookmarks.
    - Crate some Web 2.0s for Generic Anchors, Naked Links and a few Image/Notext Anchors, most probably I'll outsource this.
  • Add more posts to the WEB 2.0 Buffers.

CONTENT: 18 articles totaling 13,200+ words

TOTAL EXPENSES: somewhere around $70.

Till now I haven't created a single backlink except adding my url to the facebook, g+ and twitter profiles, so I thought to check my domain metrics before I start building links.

DAY 149 - [20150112]

WHAT I HAVE DONE:

  • Posted 2 more articles totaling 2100+ words, one big keyword targeted and the other is just infomational not keyword targeted article.

Nothing new with the site rankings. Its ranking for about 12 keywords now, some of them are dancing from 110+ to NA. I suppose thats normal since I haven't build any backlinks yet.

I'll begin pointing these WEB 2.0 Buffers to my site very soon. Hope to see rank increase.

I'll try to post articles more often. That's because I've found good keywords that are closely related to my niche. There I can easily have 20+ articles written, so I think I'll cover this topic too.

Rethinking this journey I wish I've bought an (aged) brandable domain or even PMD instead of an EMD.
Guess it's too late changing it now.

First off thanks for posting your journey. It's interesting to read. I think a lot of people just read and never get involved in the conversation. A few questions I have for you.

What are you doing social media wise to drive traffic?

You've spent about $70 all together, but how much have you made?

How many articles do you have total on the website / average length?

Good stuff here man, keep going!

I believe the only thing you should rethink is your content strategy. Do you have broken hands? How come you only wrote 20 articles in 150 days? Thats basically 88 words a day...less than a twitter post.
You'll start seeing traffic and money roll in when you deserve it. So far it looks like you don't. Lets try and set a new goal..like 1 article everyday for the next 60 days. I guarantee if you write them yourself and do all of the work you'll see your first buck.
There is no easy way.If you would have bought an aged domain you would have seen no different result. To me it looks like you're doing this as a little hobby and don't really care about SEO or creating a real business. lets not let another 150 days go to waste my friend. id like you to join me at the top. the money is good, and the women are plentiful.

Thanks for commenting man. That was motivational for me.
Have to agree with some of your points. However, I haven't been sitting doing nothing for these 150 days. I have read and learned a lot of things for that time.

If you read the OP you'll see that I've never planned for a big site. In fact when I ordered my kw I was planning a MNS. After I got my keyword I did some research and saw that this site have potential to become a mini authority with maybe around 100 articles. So I settled for a mini authority site.

I think 1 article/day is not achievable for me at this moment. But I agree, there should've been more articles. I'll try to post articles more often.

About the EMD, I know it's not the problem. :) Just meant that now I realized that if it wasn't EMD, with time I could expand it to hundrends of articles. And EMD doesn't look good for that imo. That's not really a problem, when this site starts earning some money I can always invest in a big authority site in this niche.

yeah.. from your comment it looks to me like I'm not putting enough work on this journey. Time to get real serious about this.

Doing nothing about social media. Just a g+, fb and twitter profiles but no posts.

I've made nothing. Income is $0. :) I don't have any ads on the site and not planning to add until I have some steady traffic.

I have 20 articles totaling 15k+ words now, that averages around 750 words per article..

Well his really looks like a thread to keep a close eye on!

Nice approach, I'll be back!
