I'm personally getting an Rx-8 Grand Touring Edition. 2004. Black. It has heated seats.. built in navigation.. bose surround sound.. sun roof.. etc. You can find them for around 7k - 10k They have great handling. And then you'll have plenty of money left over to pimp it out.. can get a lambo door kit for under 1k. That's what Im gonna do until I can afford a Ferrari which will never happen in my lifetime

I agree with people that said don't spend 40k on you first car..

Spend around 10k so you can get something decent while still treating yourself:

OR if you want to save a little on gas and get something newer that is still fun to drive, get a current gen non evo lancer (07 and newer)

I meant to make it funny because it has a bigger impact. But on the serious part of the deal, driving is not a joke.

And the sad part is, that 90% of the drivers world wide aren't even getting 40% performance that their cars are capable of, and statistically that's 90BHP per average. Sad, I know.

Besides that, you must always, I mean ALWAYS remember that you have a 2 ton metal object under you, and that object can and will do enormous amounts of damage, both material and emotional (you understand what I mean you're smart people). And you, yes YOU, are responsible for controlling that vehicle safely and getting back home just the way you left, furthermore, doing the same service to the other people walking the earth, even animals, even small unpredictable children who jump in front of your car to catch the ball (that's why they have speed limits). The reason that I'm so serious about this is that I've seen many kids die just because they had too powerful cars for their skillsets (most of those kids were my friends).

When you're young you have no fears, because you don't have the experience that would tell you otherwise. And it only takes one small mistake and trust me when I say this. It only takes one quick turn of the steering wheel and given the right speed and weather conditions you'll flip your car in an instant and that ain't cool.

I've been and still am friends with lots of money made kids (rich parents types), who are now men. Most of them, got supercars when they were 18 (minimum driving age in my country). Some of those kids, died in horrible accidents in a few months, all accidents caused by them.

My luck was that when I got my licence I was driving for about 5 years on backcountry roads with my dad, who taught me to drive and learned me to do my first drift (thanks daddy ). So at the time I got my driving licence I was somewhat experienced in driving, that way I avoided being a complete retard behind the wheel, just some little tiny retard .

Lack of experience + fast car + young age = disaster, crying parents, crying friends and family, no more IM, no more living la vida loca, just earth, worms and whatever is out there.

True stories:

1) Friend, age 18 got a BMW M3, died in 3 months ( he was doing 270km/h on the highway/autobahn/motorway when a dog jumped in front of his car; the car turned into a ball when it finally stopped, and that's no joke)
2) Very good friend, age 19 got a Nissan 350z, previously drove a Seat Cupra, pretty experienced driver right?! Wrong, died at 20, got in a ah-hoc drag race with some idiot at a stop light and while he was doing about 240km/h (so the indicator froze) he hit a small water puddle ,aquaplanning effect included, resulting in him stopping in a wall. You can guess what happened next.
4) This is a reaaally special story. Dude X, acquaintance. Dude X was a very cool dude, kinda of a hipster a few years ago, maybe the first hipster. So he was so non mainstream that he baught a Mitsubishi Lancer stock with the plan to get it to 1000BHP, and he didn't buy an EVO to start with...no no no... He got the 1.6L 100 BHP or something similar, to quote him "because I can dude...wahahahahwahah". So Dude X, embarked on the mythical journey to make a monster car and got it to about 970ish BHP, close enough. The dude fell of a fucking cliff with that car on a mountain road, the weather conditions perfect, daylight, sunny, 21C temperature, no cars on that road, the tarmack spotless, no angry hitmen chasing him and still... he managed the unbelievable. We applauded him at the funeral, damn idiot.

I had about 30 stupid friends and acquaintances die in car crashes, some killing other people, one of them wiped out a damn bus full of people he got the supreme 10x multiplier achievement from Carmageddon, all wannabe drivers/underground race club members and shit.

So, the conclusion is, be careful, learn first, do later, always think before you act.

As for the car, dude my advice is to choose the car with the best interior, because that is all you'll see of the car for 90% of the time. Unless you're some morons who sleeps besides his car and has lunch while watching his precious, but I strongly believe this is not your case .

Have fun choosing, this is the best part of getting a car, the excitement of choices .

I personally prefer trucks and suv's. I still have my first vehicle i bought when i was 15, it is now a full show vehicle that sits in my garage and only drive it on sunny weekends in the summer. Its a 1984 s10 blazer lowered that is candy painted, with only 81k miles on the blazer. I also have a 1972 delta 88 royal convertible sitting on 28inch dub floats. Don't drive that much at all. My main vehicle is a 2002 durango R/T on 24inch rims. I don't feel right in small cars, seems like someone could just roll right over top of me.

I can back up about destroying your first manual transmission. I completely destroyed the clutch and transmission in my beat up Infiniti I30 (2nd car ever, first manual) in less than 10K miles.

If you're made of money (anybody looking at cars in the $30k-$40k range definitely should be), Buy any $3-$5k manual car that you like, drive it for at least 6 months, and then get a used car around $10k if you just must have a really nice car. That'll buy RX8s, S2000s, 350zs, BMWs, Older Corvettes, and obviously tons more. Don't get cars in the $30-$40k range unless you are WELL on your way to being a millionaire. I know that in this country practically everybody gets way more car than they can afford, but just don't.

Oh, and the rain is my worst driving enemy. I've never had a real wreck, but I've lost or almost lost control in curves in the rain too many times to keep up with, among other problems. It's really the only time I ever have problems driving now.

Oh, and decent handling is important for safety; this shouldn't be a problem in the kinds of cars you're looking for; I'm just stating for other readers. I learned to drive on 20 year old Buicks and such with shot suspensions. It was downright dangerous slamming on the brakes at any speed because it was very easy to loose control.

Damn I wish I had 40k to spend on a first car.. If I were you I'd buy a b7 Audi rs4

I would get an M5.. there are some decent used ones in the 40k range.
