Hi all,

Let me first start by saying that I have been with HG for over a year. All of my business/Internet Marketing connections use HG as well. I am a website developer and I refer every customer that I get to Hostgator is they do not already have hosting. Now, I had my customer go through my affiliate link and it came up in my CJ account that HG extended the payment (which is normal because it's hosting), so I had to wait 45 days for a payment. Right before the payment was scheduled to lock in, Hostgator reversed my commission. So, I then call HG and they escalated my ticket and they asked for the domain of the person that I referred in. I gave it to them and they replied with "This customer already had a pre-existing Hostgator account". Now, how is that possible when she didn't even know what hosting was until I told her about it? It is a small amount of money that I WILL be getting from Hostgator. I will keep you guys updated, but this is ridiculous for this to even occur. Any other stories that you guys would like to share about your HG experiences are more than welcome in this thread. Perhaps, a discussion can be started. Good luck to you all!

heard that alot from hostgator.. they dont like to pay money :D

I have never dealt with HostGator as an affiliate, but I've been a happy customer for years.

If she needed hosting this time, I'm sure she needed it before at some point. She probably just didn't know what she was doing when someone else referred her to HostGator to get hosting for one of her sites. I don't see any reason for HostGator to lie to you, since they are an established reputable company. I'd talk to the person you referred and make sure their is no way she used them for hosting in the past. I'm sure it's a misunderstanding with her and not HostGator trying to short you.

It's absolutely absurd. I've made them atleast $1000 and paid them atleast $200 of my own money. Excuse the expression, but they should be on their knees and wiping their chin.

She didn't know what hosting was before I came along. She didn't know she needed hosting for a website to be live. I'm sure it is a misunderstanding, but it should have already been resolved.

Hostgator is the best. I am also using this for about a year. Before that I was using my local hosting that was terrible.

Oh, their hosting is the best one I've ever used and I have switched between a few. There's no problems there. However, the affiliate section, pissing me off. Also, you cannot call the affiliate department. Which is a huge red flag. Considering they say ONLY email communications.

been satisfied with their hosting no affiliate experience with them as of yet...that really is not good business.

It is NOT a misunderstanding.

Everyone knows HostGator's affiliate program is a frigging scam. I've read stories of people losing 10 of thousands of dollars from them and each time it is the same thing: right before actions lock, BAM. Hardly do people get paid with them so I've heard.

I considered using them but I after I read some stories I didn't want the hassle.

Good luck, hope you get your problem resolved. Threaten to take legal action, that might shake them up. :D

Legal action isn't entirely necessary here. I am sure I can work this out amicably with them. If I cannot, their affiliate program will be seeing a shitlist here on BHW and every other marketing forum. I'll do that just on the principle of how much i've done for them and they try this? Nah, wrong guy to try and take money from.

I never tried their Affiliate but so far I saw there support was awesome...

They already have a shittonne of stuff about how crappy their affiliate program is:

Oh, I know. I would just generate more attention to it. Considering a lot of marketers still use it. I would just site those as sources besides my own experience.

Went through the EXACT same thing with a client some time ago. Built a site for her, sent her through my aff link. Got the commission reversed for the same reason as you. Their program is shit. After that, I grabbed a reseller account, and sell my own hosting to clients, which I find to be more lucrative.

Yes its more lucrative (longterm). But let me guess you grabbed a reseller account from HG??OP, this is shit.... I hope this is not going to happen with me. If that happens, it will be only one time thats for sure!!!
